The Reason Taylor & Matty Reportedly Broke Up Makes Sense

After a chaotic month full of rumors and PDA, word on the street is Taylor Swift and Matty Healy have split. TMZ broke the story first followed by Entertainment Tonight (the outlet that devastated us all by breaking the news about the Swift and Joe Alwyn breakup back in April).

Both articles cite a friend close to the situation, and the reported reason behind the split is understandable. The source told ET, “Taylor and Matty broke up. They are both extremely busy and realized they’re not really compatible with each other. Taylor’s friends want what’s best for her and aren’t shocked that their relationship fizzled out since she recently got out of a long-term relationship.”

Ouch. And yes, I suppose giving it just one month after ending a six-year relationship could result in some unintentional, emotional turmoil. Her Campus reached out to both Swift and Healy’s teams for comment, but did not hear back at the time of publication.

Back when everything blew up, fans couldn’t believe that Swift and Healy would get together. As I’m sure you know, ET broke the story about Alwyn and Swift’s separation and the news about her and Healy’s budding romance. So hearing from them that it’s over has me convinced it’s true; they haven’t been wrong yet.

As a Swiftie, I hope we can all move on from this era ASAP. Shake it off. It’s no secret that Healy didn’t have the best reputation, not to mention he threw some (bigoted) shade at “Karma” collaborator Ice Spice. In short, many Swifties felt Blondie can do better. Even professionals were chipping in with their two cents saying whether the relationship was OK to hate on or should be left private. That being said, I know Twitter lost its mind when the two just held hands, so maybe not everyone was against the idea of them as a couple.

The duo met through the iconic Jack Antonoff, sang on stage together, and it was over as soon as it started. I know y’all thought we might get a collab from the two of them, but they wouldn’t even publicly come out and say they were seeing each other, so really, how high were the chances of that?

Also, if you were totally in love with the newest London boy on the block, take a look into his past. (Spoiler alert: He’s problematic.) Maybe we’ll get a new breakup single from Swift or she’ll write a sensual track about their fling. She’s potentially entering her Halsey “Colors” era with this one. Either way, it looks like single Swift is back and better than ever.
