Ghostface Is Back In The ‘Scream 6’ Trailer & So Is Jenna Ortega

Calling all horror movie fans! Ghostface is back, which can only mean one thing: Scream 6 is on its way. With a star-studded cast and a killer plot, it looks like this movie is gonna be all the rage this spring — and I doubt I’m speaking too soon when I say we probably have another Halloween classic on our hands.

The Scream 6 announcement came as an exciting surprise for fans the morning of Dec. 14. Although we knew a Scream 6 was coming, it wasn’t until today when the cast, release date, and many more details were confirmed through an absolutely spooky trailer. So, if you’re a fan looking for more info, look no further — here’s all the information you need to know.

What is Scream 6 about?

In case you aren’t familiar with the Scream movies, you’ve definitely seen the frightening Ghostface mask before. The films follow a serial killer chasing several teenagers (so watch with caution if you haven’t seen them before). In this particular installation, some of our faves are back, including none other than Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter. This time, we follow Tara in New York City, where she has fled to escape from Ghostface.

But if you know anything about Scream (or horror movies in general), it’s no spoiler to say Tara wasn’t successful. According to Consequence Film, the sixth Scream movie starts on Halloween. Tara is on the iconic New York subway with her friends and sister Sam when boom: They spot Ghostface. And, as one might expect, it all goes down from here: All the lights turn off, in true Scream fashion, and all tensions rise.

Who’s starring in Scream 6?

If you’re not a Jenna Ortega fan yet, you clearly aren’t on TikTok or Instagram — because the 20-year-old celeb is taking over the horror-thriller genre, and I’m here for it. She became a fan favorite on season two of You in 2019, then starred alongside Maddie Ziegler in The Fallout, and finally killed it as Wednesday Addams in the now-iconic Netflix series Wednesday. Ortega is now returning to her role as Tara Carpenter, whom she also played in the fifth Scream movie, which was released in 2022.

Alongside Ortega is Melissa Barrera, who you may know from In The Heights or the previous Scream movie — she plays Sam, Tara’s sister. Also returning to the screen is Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. Other noteworthy stars who are coming back for Scream 6 are Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Hayden Panettiere (who you may recognize from the fourth Scream movie).

And of course, there are plenty of new faces coming to the Scream franchise, such as Samara Weaving (Ready or Not), Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding), Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel), and Josh Segarra (Overboard).

What is the release date for Scream 6?

Fortunately, the question we’ve all been pondering finally has an answer! Scream 6 will be released on March 10, 2023. To give viewers that ultimate horror movie experience, it’ll begin by playing in theaters — so mark your calendars!

Is there a Scream 6 trailer?

Of course, the bulk of the announcement was the teaser trailer. It’s only one minute long, but boy, is there a lot to see and get excited for. Check it out below — and I’ll see you in theaters on March 10th!
