Burr Baskets Are Going Viral On TikTok — Here’s How To Make One This Holiday Season

As Mariah Carey says, it’s time! That’s right, once the clock struck midnight on Nov. 1, the holiday season officially began. With the weather getting colder, it’s cuffing season and winter romance is in the air. The holidays are filled with adorable festive date ideas from strolling around seeing Christmas lights to making gingerbread houses, but it’s also gift-giving season. This latest TikTok trend is sure to win you some brownie points with your S.O. Enter: Burr Baskets.

Technically, we are still in the fall season, which explains why you might be feeling some deja vu. ICYMI, boo baskets were recently trending during the Halloween season. The TikTok trend consisted of a basket filled with spooky season necessities, such as a cozy Halloween blanket and a pumpkin candle. If you were one of the people on the receiving end of a string of TikToks hinting at getting your partner a boo basket, but you never did, I’m here to save the day. Though you had 31 days to surprise your S.O. with a boo basket, the burr basket is here for you to redeem yourself just in time for cuffing season. Here is everything you need to make a burr basket for the holiday season.

1. A basket

OK, this might be self-explanatory, but it’s obviously a must for a burr basket. Opt for a basket that can double as both decor and storage. Five Below has a lot to choose from that won’t break your bank.

2. A cozy blanket

It’s not the holiday season without a festive blanket to snuggle up while you watch Elf for the thousandth time. A burr basket must be complete with a snuggly blanket. Luckily, Target is your one-stop shop for all things cozy. They have an array of festive blankets available for only $10 from a minimalist green pattern to a winter wonderland one. Bonus points if you add fuzzy socks to match.

3. An aromatic candle

Pines, pumpkins, and vanilla are the holy trinity of holiday scents. Gift your S.O. a winter-inspired candle to transport them to their favorite holiday destination. HomeGoods has a ton of options, including an Anthropologie dupe that is going viral on TikTok. Of course, you can never go wrong with the Bath & Body Works Holiday collection

4. Holiday pajamas

Nothing gets me more excited than throwing on my Christmas pjs and decorating for the Holidays. This year, stores didn’t come to play with their selection for holiday pajamas. If you’re willing to splurge and treat your S.O., then Aerie has the cutest choices. (As a Grinch enthusiast, I got my eyes set on the Cindy Lou Who pajama set.) For a more cost-effective option, Target never fails. Throw in a pair of holiday slippers to complete the look.

5. A Holiday Squishmallow

I still haven’t recovered from the cuteness of the Halloween Squishmallows, but now the holiday ones have me in a chokehold. No matter how old we get, we can always use a good stuffed animal to cure the growing up scaries. The fact you can get matching Rudolph and Clarice Squishmallows has me giggling and kicking my feet.

6. Small Christmas decor

Chances are, your partner’s already planning out their Christmas decor so you better get a move on. Target has affordable and adorable options in their Bullseye’s Playground section, such as this nostalgic buffalo plaid Christmas tree or this “Cup of Cheer” sign for my pink Christmas besties.

7. A holiday mug or cup

Ugh, I’m a sucker for a good mug. Whether it be a hot chocolate or a peppermint mocha, all holiday season my cup will be full with a festive drink. For my hot drink lovers, H&M has this simple holiday mug that’s perfect for cold nights by a fire. For my cold beverage besties, you can never go wrong with the Starbucks holiday collection

8. A candy cane or holiday snack

Candy canes are the candy corn of the Christmas season (and arguably better), so it’s only right to include one in your burr basket. However, candy canes aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but there are plenty of holiday snacks to choose from. The Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark squares are unmatched. Same with the Little Debbie Christmas Tree cakes. If you really want to take it up a notch, get sugar cookie dough so it can double as a date idea. Thank me later.

9. A gift card to their favorite coffee shop

Whether the burr basket recipient is a Starbucks lover or prefers Dunkin, getting them a gift card to their favorite coffee shop covers all the bases. Trust me, when the holiday drinks come out at Starbucks, it’s a national holiday so make sure they are covered for all their coffee runs.
