Books, Creators, and Podcasts that Have Changed My Life

The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus.
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

We need to be careful with the type of content we consume. Some of it can be quite draining, and it’s also pretty easy to fall into the temptation to compare ourselves with the people that create that content. We need to be taking care of our mental health at all times, and social media can be one of the sources that can either improve it or worsen it.

In this post, I’m going to share my favorite books, creators, and podcasts that have helped me throughout my personal development and healing journey.

Books that have changed my life

1. Own Your Everyday by Jordan Lee Doley

This book will make you realize that everyone starts somewhere and that no one goes through the same phases in their journey as you. The reason behind this logic lies in that every single living person in the world is currently writing a completely different story than the rest. Generally speaking, this book pushes you to take that first step towards achieving the life you want, without the need to engage in comparisons.

2. YOU’re a Badass by Jen Sincero

While reading Jen Sincero’s book, trust me when I say that you’ll quickly muster up enough confidence to throw your self-doubt down the drain. Throughout her writings, she reminds you of your worth and of everything you’re capable of (hint: the possibilities are literally endless!). Jen Sincero reminds you that in order to be a badass you have to trust yourself, believe in yourself, and remember that you are capable of anything you put your mind to and so much more.

3. Inward by Yung Pueblo

In case you need a light read, the free verse words of Yung Pueblo will help you reflect on yourself and kickstart your journey towards healing. Just a few pages a day can help you reach a self-exploration state of mind that will help you travel inwards and explore your mind and heart.

Creators that have changed my life

1. Kalyn Nicholson (All Things Koze)

The YouTuber and content creator Kalyn Nicholson is pretty much my guru on all things mental health and the process of growing as a person. She has a total of two channels; one where she shares more of her daily life, and her branded one: “All Things Koze” where she shares her advice and perspective on topics such as productivity, healing, mental health, relationships, and many more areas of interest!

2. Lavendaire

Ailee Xu, or as she refers to herself, Lavendaire, is the most beautiful, kind-hearted soul you’ll ever meet. She has helped me visualize the life I truly want for myself and is part of my monthly planning routine to set my life up for success. I can admit that I have achieved most of my goals thanks to her guidance and wise words.

3. Brianna West

Brianna’s words are sometimes exactly what you need to hear in your 20s. In here, words of assurance are the comfort you need when life feels overwhelming and with no direction. She has made me realize that I don’t need to have all the answers to every question I have right now and that there’s really no need for me to rush through this phase of my life.

podcasts that have changed my life

1. In Hindzsight

Hindz has such a cleansing vibe and a voice that helps me feel centered whenever I tune in to his podcast. On my most anxious days, I pop in my headphones and simply listen to Hindz talk about mindfulness and anxiety. Once I finish, it’s truly amazing to reap the benefits of what his calming voice and lessons do to my wellbeing. For those hectic and fast-paced days, this podcast will help you slow down for a bit.

2. Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain

Listening to Emma’s podcast will literally make you feel like you can talk to her about anything because she often explores an expansive range of highly relatable topics. Whenever I listen to her, it opens a whole new perspective on how I view different aspects of my life. Her advice is truly achievable, and it’s exactly the answer I was looking for.

3. SHE with Jordan Lee Doley

I like to think of Jordan as my big sister. Both her book and podcast have helped me immensely in becoming a more confident individual. Throughout her talksーwhich often feature special guestsー I’ve learned about many aspects of what makes me a woman. Her “big sister” style advice is the reassurance that I need to know that I’m constantly building my own path through life.

With those recommendations in mind,  I hope you realize that everything is going to be okay and that you are the sole creator of your life! Make sure you create something that makes you happy and that is true to you!

lots of love,
