Going to bed should be the most peaceful part of our day, but let’s be honest, it’s usually not. If you’re anything like me, the end of your day is when you lay in bed and overthink everything that happened during your day, which doesn’t exactly make for the best sleep. Feeling good before going to bed is essential for a decent night’s sleep, but it’s not always easy to achieve.

One thing that always makes me feel better before I go to sleep every night is a shower. Showering gives me some quiet time to myself. It allows me to reflect on my day, calm down, listen to some music, and just be alone for a little. Showering, for me, is relaxing, calming, and it gives me a chance to wash the day away and get ready to do it all again tomorrow.

Next tip: Stay off your phone! We’re all guilty of it, believe me I am too, but those “ten more minutes” on TikTok will turn into an hour and soon enough you won’t be able to sleep. Additionally, the blue light from your phone will disturb your eyes and keep your brain awake, making it harder to fall asleep once you feel like you’re actually ready to put down your phone. To avoid your phone, I recommend reading a few chapters from a book, meditating, or maybe even journaling about your day. Just try to do something not associated with technology, we have enough of that for the rest of the day.

Personally, one of the worst feelings I know is being on the verge of falling asleep, curled up in bed, and then remembering I have an assignment due tomorrow that I haven’t touched. To avoid this dreadful feeling, I recommend keeping some sort of agenda or to-do list. This will help keep your brain organized and it gives you something to check each day so you can peacefully fall asleep knowing you completed what you had to for the day. It’s such a stress reliever and relaxer to glance at your to-do list for that day and see everything is checked off.

Another important thing I do before bed is drink water. Stay away from the coffees, sodas, juices, and pretty much anything with caffeine or sugar. I’d even recommend avoiding any caffeinated teas. These drinks will boost your energy and make it harder for you to fall asleep in the long run.

These tips won’t guarantee an amazing night of beauty sleep, but if you follow them, hopefully you’ll sleep a little easier.
