If you’re like me and a few other uni students, some mornings are harder than others. I slowly roll over in bed, whip my covers off, and scuffle my way to the shower. The worst morning routine however are those mornings I dread the walk to class in sprinkling rain or the harsh cold. If you’re like me, you are not a morning person. A cup of coffee or tea simply does not brighten your morning. So, I have come up with 4 things to do to uplift my crappy mood and so far they work.

1. Start your day off with a glass of water

Most people know it’s healthy to start the day off with a glass of water, but we all don’t remember to do it. Without a doubt it’s important to remember to start your day off with a glass of water because it is necessary for our bodies health. 1. It kick starts our body, 2. It flushes out toxins in our body, 3. It gives us a small boost of energy, 4. Fills our stomach, and 5. It gives us ENERGY! With energy we can accomplish so much, like going to class. There are so many reasons that I could list as to why we should drink water, but for me, it has reduced my headaches and has helped me stay awake during class without the awful coffee breath.

2. Listen to some upbeat tunes

Last semester I found it highly difficult to get around for my 9 a.m. Spanish class. So, instead of moping around, I turned to my Jonas Blue Pandora station. I particularly like music that has a “house” beat to it, but if you’re not like me find a station you love. A station that will uplift your mood, turn any negative thought into a positive one, and walk to your morning class with a mind full of energy.

Oh! Don’t forget to dance your frustrations out. I highly recommend the dancing.

3. Look for flowers on the way to class

One thing that helps me get through the morning and my first a.m. class is to look around and find something. Something that will make me smile and often times it’s flowers. If there’s no flowers I look for the cute chubby squirrels near the diag or chipmunks running in between bushes. If those don’t help me, I listen for the chirping of birds. They always seem to be cheerful in the morning as if they’re singing to everyone that’s walking. If none of these options seem to help you, look towards something else that nature has to offer.

4. Think of something that always makes you smile

Sometimes when I’m still feeling grumpy and tired, I again look towards nature, because that’s what puts my mind at ease. I often look around and try to find a chipmunk. For me, the chipmunk reminds me of a dear close friend whose nickname is “chip” or “chipmunk”. I inhale the fresh air, watch the chipmunk run or freeze in motion, and instantly smile. So my recommendation to you all is to find something to help you that is outside of the usual recommendations. Think of the one thing that instantly makes you smile or laugh. Slowly but surely, your mornings will improve.
