Anxiety disorders can cause many of us to struggle with waking up in the morning. The anxiety can be so draining that it creates unsteadiness throughout our days. The anxiety makes us want to stay in bed, blinds-closed with no outside world communication. Luckily, there are a few ways to manage this, especially in the morning. Follow along to gain some tips on managing your morning anxiety!

Sleep habits

Creating a better sleep schedule is imperative to managing morning anxiety. Set a standard time to fall asleep each night and wake up at the same time each morning. We also need to avoid watching TV, scrolling on social media, and working on the computer before bedtime. I’ve found that journaling each night has helped relax my mind before bed as well. Following these simple steps can help reduce headaches, decreased energy, and lack of concentration as well.

Positive thoughts

I know it’s hard to think positive thoughts when you wake up with morning anxiety, but our mind is powerful. Identify the negative thoughts that you wake up with in the morning. Instead of thinking, “I won’t make it through this day” start by saying “My anxiety won’t control me today and I can make it through the day.” Controlling our mind when awaking in the morning can help us manage the anxiety.

Get moving

Whether it’s a walk or a trip to the gym, moving in the morning can increase serotonin levels. Lifting your mood in the morning is important for the rest of the day. As hard as it is to get up, think about how much better you will feel for the rest of the day.

Diet

Start digging into your diet to understand your eating habits. People with poor diets have been tied to anxiety disorders. Balance your diet with proteins, vegetables, fruits, and carbohydrates. Caffeine can have a negative impact on your morning anxiety as well. As much as we want that morning coffee, research how it can affect your anxiety.

Self-care

Put your face mask on, take a bath, and light some candles. Making time for your self-care routine at night or in the morning can help manage anxiety. When you wake up, try doing some moisturizing or exfoliating to feel good. Self-care has a way of making us feel brand new and rejuvenated.

Follow these tips above to help reduce that morning anxiety!
