Whitney Leavitt Teased Leaving ‘SLOMW’ A While Ago, FWIW

If your TikTok FYP has been even slightly plugged into #MomTok, you’ve probably already seen the news: Whitney Leavitt is officially stepping away from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. She announced the decision during her final performance in Chicago on Broadway on Sunday, May 3.

Leavitt has been a central figure on SLOMW since it premiered in September 2024. The series often focused on her life, including friendship conflicts, discussions around faith, influencer culture, and the challenges of balancing Mormon identity with online visibility. She was one of the primary cast members throughout the show’s run.

Even while the series was blowing up, Leavitt began shifting toward other opportunities. One of her early storylines involved stepping back from filming amid cast tension and personal conflict, as she pursued other projects, including a potential opportunity on Dancing With the Stars. She later joined Season 34 of the show and reached the semi-finals with professional partner Mark Ballas.

After DWTS, Leavitt made a fast pivot to Broadway, stepping into the role of Roxie Hart in Chicago. It wasn’t just a stunt-casting moment either, as her run coincided with increased ticket sales for the production, which reported its highest levels since 2023. Ballas later joined her for a limited engagement in April. Her final performance took place on May 3, following an extended run that began in February.

Her exit from SLOMW also comes at an uncertain moment for the franchise. Production on Season 5 was paused when news of a domestic violence investigation between Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen broke, but the show has since resumed filming. The franchise also announced a spinoff of the original show, which is set to take place in Orange County, California, with names like Aspen Ovard, Bobbi Altoff, and more attached.

Why is Whitney Leavitt leaving SLOMW?

Leavitt’s decision to step back had been developing before the production pause. In a March 2026 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she said she was reassessing her role on the show while focusing on acting and producing opportunities. “I’m figuring it out in real time,” she said. “We’re figuring it out together, but it feels like that’s the trajectory of where it’s going. But again, I wouldn’t be where I am without it, but it feels like it’s time to challenge myself in other ways and fulfill these dreams and passions that I’ve been trying to get even before the show.”

Leavitt said she did participate in some Season 5 filming, including scenes involving cast visits during her Broadway run, though it is unclear whether she will return in a full-time or limited capacity.

Outside the drama, Leavitt has several upcoming projects. She’s attached to a holiday rom-com with Ninth House Productions as both lead and executive producer, set to appear at the first-ever Dancing With the Stars fan convention, and recently stepped into a leadership role as Chief Creative and Brand Officer at Cool Sips.
