Let’s talk about hair. Curly hair isn’t something people talk about unless you have it. From a young age, I was taught to embrace, love, and care for my natural hair! There are so many different types of hair, which means style, texture, and curl pattern. I want to take the time today to give you some tips for embracing your natural hair, curly or not!

  1. I think it is very important to love your routine! I have mine linked here! But honestly, the more excited you are about your wash and style routine, the more you can embrace taking care of your natural hair, making it easier to care for.
  1. Understanding whether you’re 2B, 3A, 3C, etc., can help guide product choice, but it’s not everything. Focus more on what your hair needs than the exact label. Here is a quick photo table of the different styles!
  1. Moisture is everything! Curly hair is naturally drier, so hydration is key. Here are some good hydration tips!
    1. Use a sulfate-free shampoo
    2. Deep condition weekly
    3. Add a leave-in conditioner after every wash
  1. Ditch the terry cloth towel. Regular towels cause frizz and breakage. Use a microfiber towel or a cotton T-shirt to gently scrunch and wring out extra water.
  1. Apply products to soaking wet hair. This helps lock in moisture and define curls.
Try the L.O.C. method: leave-in → oil → cream. Honestly, a key staple for a good hair day!
  1. Don’t shy away from gel. Gel gives hold, definition, and keeps frizz under control. Scrunch out the “crunch” with some oil in your hands, once your hair fully dries, for soft curls.
  1. Sleep on satin. A satin pillowcase or bonnet reduces friction, frizz, and breakage.
Your curls will look way better in the morning. Especially if you’re like me and shower at night!
  1. Refresh instead of re-washing. Curly hair doesn’t need daily shampoo. For not washing days here are some tips!
  • Spritz with water
  • Add a little leave-in
  • Scrunch to revive curls
  1. Embrace the “Imperfect” days! Curls have moods. Some days they’re perfect spirals, some days they’re fluffy clouds, and both are beautiful. Learning to work with your hair instead of fighting it is the real secret.
  1.  Find styles that make you happy! This is about feeling good, looking good, and loving your hair! Try new things and practice what you love. Your hair is a way to express yourself, so do that and do it with love!
