Getting Out of a Funk

As school picks up, things get harder. We end up getting stuck in a funk where we don’t want to do anything or simply just lack motivation. I’ve found for myself, I get into a place where I end up just rotting in bed and scrolling endelessly on my phone. In order to pull myself out of that place, I’ve found some ways to get rid of this funk.

Turn on Music

I’ve found that one of the best ways to help me gain motivation or simply just feel better is to turn on music. Turn on some of your favorite songs- even better if it’s an upbeat song. For myself I’ve found that doing this can always shift my mood and make me feel so much better (especially if I’m listening to Taylor Swift).

Get a Change of Scenery

Sometimes all we want to do is lay in bed, but that just keeps us in a funk. Most times we just need to get up, and go for a walk. For myself, I’ve also found that getting a change of scenery helps me gain motivation. Instead of sitting in my room and trying to get work done, I try to find other places on campus, like the library or the student center, or even going off campus to a coffee shop.

Get Ready in the Morning

The way I start my day always has an impact on how my day goes. Get up in the morning and choose a cute outfit. For me, I love to put on some makeup to make myself feel better and more productive. When I feel like I look better, I feel better and my attitude shifts.

Reward Yourself

Sometimes the hardest part about being in a funk is lacking motivation to get work done. One of the best ways to get out of this and get your work done is to give yourself a reward. Create a list of things you need to get done and once you finish them, treat yourself to a movie night or hanging out with friends. I’ve also found that treating yourself while you’re doing work helps give you motivation to keep going. Getting a coffee, making one, or eating candy always helps me to get through my work.

Even though it can be hard to get out of a funk, doing some of these things never fails to make me feel better.
