Trying Something New

Thursday, January 28, 2010

My first week of spring semester got off to an unusually busy start. My foray into the German language finally came to an end on Monday morning, when I sat through my last three-hour lecture and took my final exam. I quickly had to switch back to Russian mode the next day and spent the better part of two hours recalling how to decline words I hadn't used in over a month. In the meantime, I've been going to the gym each day, catching up with friends, checking in with my on-campus organizations, and of course reading HC!

But somehow, in the midst of all the activity, I found myself with very little actual homework to do for my courses. So last night, I decided to do something I've never done before: go out mid-week. In the past, I've always come up with excuses not to go out on a school night. I was too bogged down with work and other commitments. I had class early the next morning and needed my nine precious hours of sleep. But last night, I thought, why not? I hadn't done anything fun or spontaneous in a while, and my only class today isn't until 1:30. Besides, getting off campus would be a great way to clear my head and recharge to face the rest of the week's challenges.

It turned out to be a good decision. My roommate and I took the bus into Boston and had a delicious dinner at our favorite Vietnamese restaurant. On the bus ride in, we passed various other eateries in Cambridge, and decided that we should take excursions like this more often.
