Whether you’re trying to find time in your day to relax or have body goals to reach, investing more into your health is always a GAIN! It’s never too early, or too late, to start investing more energy into your wellness.

But many don’t know where to start when it comes to starting their journey to better health. Don’t have a gym partner? Unmotivated? No worries! I bring to you simple life hacks and tips you can incorporate into your daily routine that will do your mind and body good.

No Gym Partner? No Problem

  • Pick a day or two to go to the gym before your first class or after your last class

The Fitness Center is open to all students and it is an added fee in your tuition so why not use it right? You’re probably going to pass it at least once during the day, so why not!

  • Taking 30-45 minutes of your day to get your body moving, your blood flowing, and also…

  1. Reduce stress and anxiety
  2. Give you an energy boost
  3. Sleep better
  4. Reduce the risk of getting Heart Disease (common amongst African Americans)
  5. Increase in Self-confidence

The Fitness Center also offers a variety of classes to fit everyone’s schedule, whether you’re dancing, running laps, or taking a evening aerobics class, get that body moving!

  • Walk to class!

Yeah it may be far, but let’s be honest you can get anywhere on campus in a decent amount of time on foot than you would waiting on that shuttle bus.

Walking is a GREAT form of exercise for those with busy schedule. It is also a good time to slow down and:

  1. Do some self reflection

  2. Listen to some music that fits your mood

  3. Breath and refocus

Give yourself enough time to get there and go get’em girl!

Save that coin!

Take advantage of healthy food options on campus.

Eating out adds up! Using flex adds up! Do your wallet and body a favor and…

  • SWIPE SWIPE SWIPE! Even though we all flee from the horrors of the Cafe it doesn’t hurt to take advantage of the FREE food options available there and around campus.

  • DRINK UP! Drinking more water is one of the easiest and best things you can do for the body. Trade a cup of pink lemonade for 2 cups of water, your skin will thank you!

  • Eating good makes sure that the body gets the vitamins and minerals it needs and also helps protect you from getting illnesses like cancer and diabetes (also common amongst African Americans)

  • Reduces the risk of dehydration and headaches

  • Helps keep your pH levels balanced

Do what you need to do!

It’s so easy to get caught up in college, a lot of students suffer from anxiety, depression and even suicidal thoughts due to the pressures brought on by school and its social environment. It can be a lot sometimes, so it’s important to find your chill.

  • Take the time you need to ensure your happiness and sanity – Listen to your favorite music, go out with friends, or do a face mask. Do anything that takes your mind off anything stressful or problematic, your mind needs rest just as much as the body.

  • FLIGHT MODE – Our phones are our biggest distraction, between social media and our own social lives we lose focus on things. We come in contact with so much energy unintentionally on social media, both positive and negative. Choose peace and take in the reality around you.

  • Be SELFISH – Yes, it is important to give back and help others but sometimes you need to help yourself. Do nice things for yourself, go get a pedicure, do a face mask at home, or buy some new earrings. We work hard for the things we want, and hard work deserves reward.

ALWAYS remember what might work for some doesn’t always work for others. Always do what is going to benefit you the most because you deserve it. Everyone’s life journey is different for a reason, no amount of effort is too small. Results always follow with change. Love yourself <3

Hi everyone! I am a sophomore at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University who should be majoring in Weddings, but is actually a Journalism & Mass Communications student with a concentration in Multimedia. Originally I am from Woodbridge, Virginia, which is about 30 minutes south of our nation’s capital. I have lived here all my life, but I’m not afraid to branch out and explore the world. This past summer I studied abroad in Sydney, Australia to engage and immerse myself in Australian culture. The experience was phenomenal and I’m already counting down the days until I can return that beautiful country. Check out my Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook.
