Wellness Workshops at AU’s Fitness Center

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Want to be fit, increase your muscle mass, or learn about proper nutrition habits? You can do all that for free without leaving campus! AU’s Recreational Sports & Fitness Center is offering wellness workshops for student groups and academic classes this semester. Student groups and classes can now schedule personal fitness workshops with Wellness Ambassadors. The 15 different workouts and presentations focus on fitness, proper weight lifting techniques, nutrition, and stress management tips.

Any student club, fraternity or sorority, academic department, or academic class can schedule a workshop with the fitness center. The workshops can be adjusted to small or large class sizes and are an hour long. The workshops are free with the exception of the private group exercise class ($50 total for the class).

Here is a sneak peak at a few of the workshops offered:

  1. Weight Training Basics: This presentation informs students on the best way to start regular weigh training. Discussion revolves around how often you should lift each week, the proper techniques to use when lifting, and what exercises give you the best results.
  2. Fitness Anywhere: In a slump? Don’t have the motivation to go to the gym? Learn how you can work out in your dorm room!
  3. Improve Cardiovascular Endurance: Training for a race? This presentation will cover the best methods to stay safe while training hard. From nutrition tips, to workout plans, to recovery time, you will be ready for the big race in no time!

Students can request a workshop by e-mailing Catherine, one of the fitness center’s employees at clynch@american.edu. The fitness center aks that students request workshops two weeks in advance.
