Lose the Freshman 15: Do’s and Don’ts of Shopping For Your New Body!

Hello collegiettes! I hope everyone’s week has started off on the right foot. Instead of being productive today like I told myself I would be, I ended up watching clips of Conan O’Brien on Youtube for hours…oops. I also listened to Demi Lovato’s new song “Something That We’re Not” and am obsessed! I can tell her new album is going to be really good.

Anyways, I went shopping a few days ago for new professional work clothes appropriate for summer, and noticed things aren’t as simple now that clothes fit differently as I’m losing weight. I’ve compiled a list of what you should and shouldn’t do when you go shopping after losing weight so you all can have a much smoother experience than I did.

Do: Get measured. This typically applies when shopping for lingerie, as you may or may not have decreased in band width, and in jeans. I think I might be the only person in the world who still hasn’t figured out how numbers (2, 4, 6) translate to jeans sizes (27, 28, 29), but don’t be afraid to ask a sales associate if they can re-measure your hips and waist to get the most accurate fit.

Do: Try on multiple sizes. I feel like brands vary in the consistency of their sizes. For example, I’ve always been a 6 in jeans from American Eagle, while I was a 7 at some stores and an 8 in other stores. Don’t assume you’re one size in an article of clothing, and bring multiple sizes of the same thing into the dressing room with you just in case.

Don’t: Shop on a full stomach. As much as I love my Zico coconut water, trying on clothes bloated on water weight, or anything really, is not advisable. If you want the most accurate, snug to your specifications fit, don’t eat or drink anything before trying things on.

Don’t: Order online. I am a HUGE advocate for online shopping, but I’ve been wary in buying anything pants/skirts or dresses related lately. Not only do sizes vary by brand, but a lot of things look so good on a mannequin yet so different on your specific body type. As much as it kills me to abstain from taking advantage of all the Mother’s Day Sales, I’m sure waiting to see if something looks good and fits the way you want it to in person is worth the wait.

Feel free to comment below on any suggestion you might have in addition to these tips. I’m looking forward to challenging myself by sticking to the Drop10 Diet, even though it’s been kind of difficult. Don’t forget to sign up for the second round of Dietbet and to follow me on Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. Until next time, bye guys!
