Celebration of LIghts11/29/2012 |
It's that time of year again! Holidays (and final exams) are upon us and that can only mean one thing... Celebration of Lights! In traditional SMU fashion, there will be a lighting on the Christmas tree and the main quad, followed by carols and President Turner reading The Christmas Story. The celebration is put on by Student Foundation and is one of the most looked forward to events every year, so make sure to grab your jackets and hot cocoa and head to the quad this Sunday at 7 PM! |
Black Friday and Cyber Monday11/20/2012 |
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, that can only mean one thing... Black Friday shopping! One thing to remember while shopping and pushing your way through the crowded lines is to be patient and keep your cool. The lines will be long and the people will be rushing to get the same deals that you are. Make sure to know what stores you want to hit up for the sales and list them on paper from your most important to least important. It also wouldn't hurt to write down specific things you want to get while shopping so you don't accidently overspend or forget something you wanted! It may also be beneficial to take a friend with you while shopping since the day will undoubtedly be long, and you'll need some moral support. Happy shopping! |
Homecoming Queen Paige Evans11/8/2012 |
Paige Evans, a senior from San Diego was crowned Homecoming Queen this year! Read below to gain some insight into SMU's reigning Queen. Congrats on winning Paige! How did it feel to hear your name be called in Ford Stadium? I felt both honored and surprised because there were so many highly qualified candidates. I had an overwhelming feeling of appreciation for all of the people that dedicated their time to the Homecoming effort and particularly to those people who were kind enough to vote for me. What was your favorite part about the entire Homecoming experience? I really enjoyed participating in the parade and seeing all the pageantry and enthusiasm from everyone involved in the entire process. During the Q&A during Rock the Vote, you said your fridge would be filled with anything Red Velvet. What is your favorite “Red Velvet” thing to eat? Red Velvet cupcakes from Sprinkles! I crave them at all hours of the day.
If you had to change one thing about the Homecoming week, what would it be? Would you add anything or take anything away? Honestly, SMU Student Foundation did such an incredible job! I really wouldn’t change a thing. What are you plans for after you graduate? Do you want to stay in Dallas? |

Alpha Chi Couture10/16/2012 |
The SMU Alpha Chi Omega and Beta Kappa Beta alumnae chapters will host its annual Alpha Chi Couture fashion show and silent auction at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 2 at the Frontiers of Flight Museum. The event, again hosted by Jan Strimple, benefits the Genesis Women’s Shelter and the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation and hopes to raise awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence. The event—with presenting sponsor Lifetime Strategies, and other sponsors, JC Penney, Frost Bank, Model Finance Company, Double S Interests and Kim L. Hix Accountancy Corp, to name a few—kicks off with a cocktail hour and silent auction followed by a fashion show featuring the latest styles at Tootsie’s, Brooks Brothers and WAREhaus. Over the last six years, Alpha Chi Couture has raised more than $150,000. These funds have helped the Genesis Women’s Shelter provide a safe place for over 2,000 women and children who have fled the immediate threat of domestic violence. These contributions help the shelter meet all of the victims’ needs, including clothing, food, shelter and counseling. |
