Temple Females Seeking: Sugar Daddies? Temple ranks number 5 for most students registered on SeekingArrangement.com3/11/2012 |
Philly.com published an article that was focused on the recent activities of some Temple students, sounds like great news right? Think again. Temple females have been soliciting themselves on SeekingArrangement.com, a website that connects older men seeking younger women and vice versa. The young women who advertise themselves on this site are paid to go out with older men, sometimes just on dates but more often than not, the men expect more than a dinner date and a little hand-holding. Although this idea may not sound too bad if you’re just hanging out with a man and receiving between $1,000 - $20,000 for one night, but how does this look in the greater scheme of things. If you ask me, this looks like an escort system that could be harmless, but could potentially put someone in an uncomfortable situation. If you read a blog from Barstoolsports.com, your opinions might be a little stronger as they bash these girls. “Temple sluts are out there on the internet slutting it up for all to see — and for what? A couple well-connected friends and a paid Sallie Mae bill?” one commenter lashed on Barstoolsports.com. Comments such as this make not only the girls on the website look promiscuous, but potentially tarnishes the name of all Temple females. The headline on both Philly.com’s articles and Barstoolsports.com draw in attention by pointing out that these girls are Temple students. To me, this gives people a false impression about what us Temple females are all about. |

Microwaves, Cell Phones and Now Splenda: Everything Causes Cancer Nowadays... Or Does It?2/23/2012 |
As an avid Splenda user, I was seriously concerned when I heard through the grapevine that this artificial sweetener could be potentially hazardous to my health. Every morning I pop two packets of that calorie-free sweetness into my coffee to start my day. Clearly, I needed to get to the bottom of this Splenda scare. Splenda, Equal and Sweet’N Low have been adding sweetness without the extra calories to our sweets and treats for over a decade. I love sweets. America loves sweets. We all love sweets. So why is it that Splenda has a bad rep when it has to be FDA approved to be sold on super market shelves? Like many other rumors that are spread by word of mouth, this cancer theory is a major misconception. According to the Mayo Clinic, this gossip all leads back to the 1970s. Studies that were published in the 1970s showed that the artificial sweetener saccharin led to bladder cancer found in lab rats. As a result of these findings, it was required that saccharin post a warning label for customers about potential health hazards. According to the National Cancer Institute, there has been research conducted on various artificial sweeteners in order to ensure the safety of the consumers. It also explains that there have been no findings of artificial sweeteners linked to cancer in humans. Well America looks like we can all breathe again and sweeten our coffee - calorie free. |
Yoga: Back Bending or Back Breaking?2/13/2012 |
Yoga master of almost 40 years, Glenn Black, told The New York Times, “Yoga is for people in good physical condition. Or it can be used therapeutically. It’s controversial to say, but it really shouldn’t be used for a general class.” Now, when I think of yoga the words breathe, stretch and relax come to my mind. I certainly would not call myself a yoga enthusiast. My favorite aspect of yoga is the yoga pants, but I do enjoy taking occasional classes with friends. So how is this Zen-like practice harmful you might wonder? As The New York Times reports, yoga has become so popular over the past decade that people forget what this practice is truly about. There’s even yoga for Wii Fit. Rather than “becoming one with your body,” people treat yoga as a sport, trying to push themselves to the limit and consequently hurting themselves. |
Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired? Boost Your Immune System for Finals Week!12/15/2011 |
The winter chill sets in, the workload piles up and suddenly it starts getting dark at 4:30p.m. Yup, finals week is on the horizon. With so many things on your mind such as deadlines, tests and winter break, it is hard to focus on healthy habits. Unfortunately, pulling all nighters, snacking late night and stressing out weakens our immune systems, making us more susceptible to those annoying stuffy noses and croupy coughs. Here are some tips to keep yourself in tip top shape so you can ace those final exams. Take your vitamins. Although this may sound overrated, it actually makes a great difference. Ingesting vitamin C is an effortless way to boost your immune system and stay healthy even when you begin to feel fatigued. Eat Healthy. It may be difficult to find time to make dinner or meals during these final, stressful weeks, but that does not mean you have to eat junk food. Sure, fast food is well, fast, but it will not nourish your body enough to fight off bad bacteria when you start feeling weak and tired. Stick to fruits, vegetables and protein to power up your diet and get some energy. It takes just as long to throw together a salad or pick up a wrap as it takes to go get a cheeseburger or snack on chips. |

According to dictionary.com the definition of beautiful is: “having qualities that give great pleasure or satisfaction to see..” But is beauty something that is only visual? Or is it also something on the inside? Personality, charisma, and other characteristics can make someone beautiful also, don’t you think? |
