How to Conquer Your End of University Blues

4/26/2013

Final term has come around and you suddenly wonder where the entire year has gone. It seems like September was just yesterday, and now you have to start thinking about what the future may hold for you. You only have a couple of months left to use the “Yeh but I’m a student excuse,” so it’s about time you make the most of this and enjoy every moment you have left of your student career.

Exams and coursework deadlines are still taking over your life, but with the right amount of organising and planning you still have plenty of time to have fun before you graduate. More importantly you have just enough time to complete your final year bucket list:

To ensure you do not sink into a spiral of post-uni depression make summer plans with your friends. Just because university ends, doesn’t mean all your great friendships have to. How about going to one of this year’s great summer festivals:

How to Know if...He's Just Not That Into You

3/4/2013

We’ve all been there where we really like a guy but it’s just not progressing to where you want it to go. If you’ve seen the film ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’ you’ve probably sat through an hour and a half learning just how you and your friends make excuses for that guy you really like: “his phone battery died” or “he’s probably helping the homeless”. Just in case you think you’re the exception, more often than not you’re in denial, because let’s be honest girls, we’re probably the rule. Nothing worth having comes easy but in reality it definitely shouldn’t be this hard. So put your high heels on, take off those rose-tinted glasses, and get back out there, because let’s be honest, he’s just not that into you. Here is a list of his behaviours that might suggest you’re not the girl for him.

Mike Dore - Student Union’s Equal Opportunities and Welfare Officer

2/10/2013

Our newest Campus Celebrity is Mike Dore, one of the University’s very own student-elected SU officers. We caught up with him to learn exactly what his role is on campus, how he enjoyed his time as a student at the University, and how he now helps make the University of Nottingham a happier, healthier, and safer place.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m Mike Dore, but some know me as dingdongdore or Dora the Explorer – I didn’t come up with either of these nicknames I’m afraid! In my spare time I love going to see movies and live gigs, and I come from Chester originally.

Tell us more about your role on campus

Well my position on the SU Exec is Equal Opportunities and Welfare Officer which involves campaigning for more support/better provisions for student healthcare and wellbeing whether it’s mental health, sexual health or any other kind of advice/pastoral service. I also support our Equality & Diversity Officers Charlie, Bez, Shabina, Rose, Laura, Iman, and Sarah who provide support networks for different students groups such as BME or LGBT students. I am part of the SU team which consists of 8 full time Exec Officers who exist to represent the 36,000 students at this University.

What inspired you to get involved?
