Sophia Wilson Pelton Is Late Night Scrolling For You In A New Hatch Initiative

Alongside not talking too loud in restaurants and gym class volleyball, sleeping is on the list of things I am terrible at. No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to fall asleep before 3 a.m. — and when I do fall asleep, I can only get an hour or two of sweet, peaceful bliss before waking up in a cold sweat for no apparent reason. While my sleep problems may only be aided by the help of a professional, Hatch’s new initiative featuring Sophia Wilson Pelton is here to make the pre-sleep wind-down time easier, and funnier, than ever.

On Dec. 1, Hatch released their first-ever content suite called “Pillow Talk.” The audio initiative section of hosted audio is available for Hatch+ subscribers on their Restore device, and features “ready-for-bed, wind-down time entertaining” without the screens or blue light exposure. “Pillow Talk” covers a variety of genres from true crime to sports, but Hatch made sure to give a little nod to Gen Z with their weekly audio segment I’ll Scroll 4 U, hosted by Sophia Wilson Pelton.

“I love being on my phone. We all do,” Pelton tells Her Campus. “I love rambling and telling little stories and I think Hatch is such a cool product and such a cool mission.”

If you’re unfamiliar with the name Sophia Wilson Pelton, you might have come across a little something called “the three-drink theory.” Coined by the comedian, the three-drink theory blew up on social media in 2021 after they took their viral tweet to TikTok.

Outside of their viral TikTok, Pelton is a model, creator, and comedian based in New York City. As a fan of internet culture (we both fall asleep to old Tana Mongeau videos), Pelton was hyped — and not at all offended — when presented with the opportunity by Hatch to talk people to sleep. “I was excited, but a bit nervous,” they say. “It feels like a big responsibility to get people to sleep, but I love talking and I love chatting.”

Pelton’s segment I’ll Scroll 4 U was designed to give you the experience of scrolling through your phone, without staring at the screen. Instead, listeners get to listen to Pelton as they scroll through their phone, offering hilarious commentary at every Nextdoor update, TikTok trend, and Instagram post that comes their way. “I feel like my phone is a portal to all of the things that make me laugh, things I like to gossip about, and things I like to,” Pelton says. “It feels like something that I was born to do.”

I’ll Scroll 4 U is also, like, the most Gen Z way of inducing sleep. Targeted at folks who fall asleep to comfort shows like The Office and Friends, Hatch’s content suite gives users an effortless, and occasionally funny, way to wind down at bedtime.

So what should you expect to hear about on Pelton’s late-night scrolls? For the most part, it’s not that far off from what you might be doing — playing games, online shopping, stalking your ex… you know, the works. “I go on eBay and look for good deals — and haggle,” they say. “And I play a lot of New York Times games like Spelling Bee and Connections, stuff like that.”

In the past, Pelton was much like me: someone who (admittedly) sucked at sleeping. However, through their partnership with Hatch and other wellness habits, Pelton has made it a priority to implement practices that aid their sleep quality. “I’ve always had trouble sleeping, and, right now especially, I’m a very busy person, so sleep is even more valuable than it’s ever been,” Pelton says. “It’s very important that I go to sleep at a specific time, otherwise the next day is going to be really tough. In terms of building a routine and just being in a good headspace day to day, it’s very helpful.”

From the three-drink theory originator themselves, Pelton has the perfect formula for your nighttime hydration routine — before winding down to some I’ll Scroll 4 U, of course. “It’s the winter, so we need more water,” they share. “I work at a tea shop (Brooklyn Tea, shout out), so I’m really into ginger turmeric tea. Finally, I don’t drink, so I bought Bella Hadid’s Kin Euphorics the other day. I love getting a special little drink.”

If you have a Hatch in your home, or have it written down on your Christmas list, consider tuning into I’ll Scroll 4 U with a beverage (or three) on your nightstand.
