Lose the Freshman 15: Working Out with New Balance

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Happy Hump Day collegiettes™!

It’s the second week of my journey to happy, healthy weight loss with SELF magazine’s Jump Start Diet, and although I haven’t yet reached my goal weight, I don’t see any reason to wait any longer to look oh-so-fabulous.

Ever since I can remember, my mother has always told me: “If you look good, you feel good.” Wouldn’t you agree?

Sometime last week, I received a package from New Balance who was so kind enough to send the “Lose the Freshman 15” bloggers an incredible package filled with two pair of sneakers and lots of comfy, adorable workout clothes—all totally free. Love, love, love all this awesome stuff and most especially because it’s in all my favorite colors: pink and purple. 003

Of course, I had to try on everything right away and put on a modeling show just for me in my bedroom mirror! My outfit was great and I felt great— that definitely boosted my confidence and motivation to hit up the gym so that I can look and feel even better!

Well, I (hopefully maybe even a “we”?) have a meal and cardio plan, along with some fabulous workout gear. but what’s next? Here’s some food for thought:

1. Wear workout clothes to class
I’m not talking about that old tee shirt of yours and basketball shorts with your university’s logo on it. No, no, no! I mean, head out to the store, pick out your favorite items from New Balance, and put together a few outfits so you too can be that fashionista at the gym.  By wearing it to class, you’ll have no excuse to skip your daily workout! Your outfit will serve as your motivation to push through boring lectures and stressful assignments, and make that trip to the student recreation center to hop on a treadmill.

2. Chose breathable fabrics
Considering that you’ll be working up a sweat while exercising, looking hot isn’t a top priority when shopping for workout gear. Look for fabrics that breathe, letting moisture move away from your body, as well as pieces that will properly fit, stretch, and move with your body. Also, don’t forget that this applies to sports bras as well!

3. Comfortable footwear 034 2
I’ll be honest and confess that I have a serious addiction when it comes to shoe shopping. Heels, boots, ballet flats—you name it, I love it. And another confession: I had no idea the varity of sneakers available that cater to different types of activities. For example, if you’ve been following my blog, you’ll remember that I’m trying to incorporate running into my workout routine. The New Balance 890 training shoes were perfectly made for this purpose! Not only are they feminine and fabulous, but they were light and comfortable. As for my indoor exercises go, the New Balance Cross Training 871 offered me the stability and comfort needed for all that footwork in the gym!
