Lose the Freshman 15: Weight Loss Success with Meal Planning

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Hey there collegiettes™!

It’s the first day of March and I couldn’t be more excited. I see this first day as a new beginning, a clean slate for us to start over. If you haven’t already joined the Freshman 15 bloggers on our journey of happy, healthy weight loss with SELF magazine’s Jump Start Diet, now is the time!

I’m happy to say that in my first week of eating healthy meals and working out five times a week, I have lost 4 lbs.— not too shabby if you ask me! A week ago I was at 145 lbs. and determined to lose my freshman 15 (or in my case, the college 25) to reach my goal weight of 130 lbs.

I attribute my successful weight loss with improved eating habits. I’ve gone from eating fast food lunches three times a week and snacking on junk food like it’s my job to opting for healthier food choices and planning my weekly meals. 034

With the Jump Start Diet’s fitness and meal plans, the easiest thing for me was to write down in my planner daily meals and snacks, and the grocery items needed. Balancing my class, my assignment, my student group meetings and commitments, and my part-time job can be pretty overwhelming at some times, as I imagine it is for many other college students as well. Rather than running to the student center to grab a quick fix of Doritos, or making a quick trip to the nearest fast food drive-thru, it’s easier to plan ahead and pack the next day’s food the night before for my convenience.

I made a document of the grocery guide list found on SELF.com for the items needed to make the meals suggested by Jillian Michaels. I love planning ahead and having this guide on a sheet to keep in my bag or on my laptop will make it easier to review and make a note of what items are needed. I’m sharing this with you below—again, this list is on the SELF Web site, but I just made it a cute, easy-to-print-and-go document for you:
