In Search of Better Sleep, I Dumped Lush Sleepy Lotion All Over My Body

Here’s the thing: sleep is really important to me. I’m not the type of person who likes to stay up late, or wake up early. I like to be in bed by 10 with a glass of wine in hand, a sheet mask pressed into my face, and endless pillows puffed up behind my head. As such, I’ve recently become obsessed with products that help you sleep better. Maybe it’s because I dream of being one of those women who just like, floats around her house all day in an extreme sort of way, only ever wearing silk and a super fluffy robe, never getting less than 9 hours of sleep.

Or maybe it’s just because sleep is really important to your overall wellness, so when I don’t get enough sleep, I absolutely feel like garbage. Our 2016 survey of 10,000 responses from women at 300+ colleges found that college women aren’t sleeping well, with only 15% of college women getting to bed by 11 on weeknights, while 51% stay up past midnight. Considering that 81% are up by nine in the morning, most of you are not getting the sleep your bodies need.

I set out for better sleep to see what I could learn about sleep, and how we can all sleep a little better. And along the way, I fell into a giant tub of Lush’s Sleepy Body Lotion.

I take my skincare routine truly seriously, so, naturally, I took the route of skincare, seeking out a skincare routine that would lead to better sleep routines. So when everyone would not stop talking about Lush’s sleep line, I was like, okay, let’s do it.

I slathered myself in a variety of sleep products, and now we’re going to hang out and talk about them.

Lush’s Sleepy Body Lotion, $20 for 7.4 oz.

You guys, there’s a reason the entire internet is obsessed with this stuff. I truly live for lavender, so this is kind of my go-to. I like to sit in front of the mirror and do some self care by just rubbing this all over my neck and shoulders. It feels nice, it smells nice, and the consistency is just really smooth and lovely.

Some people think this one smells too strong, so def give it a sniff before you purchase. That said, if you’re someone who digs smelling like sugary goodness, prepare to fall 100% in love and start gifting this to everyone you know.

Deep Sleep Shower Jelly, $15 for 8.4 oz.

Lush’s shower jellies are one of my favorite things that they make. I’ve tried a few different ones, and I really just love how these work. You basically just pop it out of the container and use it as a shower gel, and these last about a zillion years because so little product is so impactful. They’re also just really, really fun to play with.

If you’re less into a sweet lavender and chamomile scent, this shower jelly is your go-to. It’s super subtle, but once you’re post-shower and all cuddled up in bed, you’ll feel just a little bit calmer, and, if you’re like me, you’ll probably just pass out instantly. It’s amazing.

Twilight Lavender Lullaby Spray, $30 for 6.7 fl. oz.

First things first: a little goes a looooong way, so don’t let the price turn you off. One spray of this will have your room, your body, and your hair smelling AMAZING. Whenever I spritz this one, at least two people come up to me and are like, why do you smell so good? Which is one of the best compliments you can receive, obviously.

And yeah, I’ve started wearing this all day long. It makes me feel cozy no matter what (aka STRESS) the day holds.

Sleepy Shower Bomb, $4

Bath bombs are one of those things that I really think of as a nice treat, so one thing I especially like about this one is that it’s so tiny. I always feel bad when I buy a massive bath bomb and it takes me like, a year to get around to actually using it. Using these guys is simple. Just drop it in the tub, make it nice and warm, and watch it do its thing.

The scent on this is pretty subtle, with it starting out strong and then fading to something really comfortable nose-wise, if that makes sense to anyone but me. It’s not overwhelming, and it doesn’t sink into your skin as intensely as the lotion, making this a great fit for a self care weekend where you just NEED a break, but also need to rally.

I know that getting a good night’s sleep is really hard, so I hope that these products help you get all the rest you need. Because, trust me, you deserve it.
