The warm, gooey chocolate chip cookies in the dining hall are calling your name. You try to be good and ignore the buttery scent wafting through the air, but it is easier said than done. One cookie won’t hurt, right? Okay, so maybe one (or two) more. Before you know it, you are lying face down in your dorm room, regretting your indulgences, and abandoning all good intentions to go for a run or hit up the gym.
Does this situation sound all too familiar? Some days it can be hard to find the much-needed motivation to lace up your sneakers, pack your gym bag, and get your sweat on. Luckily, Brent Gilmore and Katie Pietrowski have created FitCampus.com – a site launched in the spring of 2011 that allows college students to log their workouts, compete with friends, and win rewards from healthy brands.
Brent and Katie recognize that college students have busy schedules and have to work extra hard to stay fit. That is why they want to reward you for your efforts! Each semester, Fit Campus hosts campus challenges at select colleges across the country. Fit Campus partners with local and national healthy brands to give students prizes for working out. This year, Fit Campus has partnered with ZICO Coconut Water and Feelgoodz Flip-Flops.
By working out at least 2.5 hours a week, the suggested amount of exercise needed each week to remain physically fit, participating students are eligible to win amazing prizes. Last semester, Caroline Gregory, a sophomore at Florida State, won a cruise for two! Just think, you could be cruising the Caribbean if you dedicate just two and a half hours of your week to working out and being active.
If your school is already part of Fit Campus, then it is super easy to sign up. Choose your school on the Fit Campus homepage and create an account. Make sure to “Like” Fit Campus on Facebook and follow them on Twitter as they announce giveaways through their social media. If your school isn’t listed on the site, then all you have to do is request a school invite.
Once you have signed up, hit the gym! Any piece of workout equipment counts toward your 2.5 hours, so feel free to do a combo cardio and strength session. After your workout, log on to FitCampus.com and record your time spent sweating. The site runs by the honor code when it comes to recording time, so make sure to keep it fair so that everyone will have a good experience. Continue to check your progress online throughout the semester. If you continually hit the 2.5-hour mark each week, then you will be eligible for the grand prize as well as other major prizes at the end of the semester.
