5 Things You Should Buy in Your First Fenty Beauty Order

The Her Campus National Editors write about products we love and think you’ll love too. Her Campus has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase. All products are in stock and all prices are accurate as of publication.

Ever since the release of her makeup line almost two years ago, Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty has earned a dedicated following for products that are high-quality, inclusive and aesthetically pleasing. The Pro Filt’R foundation made a splash with a wide range of shades for every skin tone, and every product since then has been one to rave about. Now, the cosmetic brand has blossomed into a complete line — with Rihanna still in the process of creating more new products to blow our minds.

From the concealer to the bronzer to the setting powder, I’ve tried pretty much everything from Fenty Beauty. If you haven’t already jumped on this train, you might be wondering where to start. Well, rest assured, I have tested and found my go-to faves that I know I’ll keep coming back to once I run out.

There have been many new product launches in the past two years, so allow me to be your personal guide to everything Fenty Beauty and what you should shop your first time around.

Brow MVP Ultra Fine Brow Pencil & Styler

sephora.com, $20; shop now

In case you’re wondering, yes, I did buy two pencils the day these came out. You don’t mess around when it’s the Sephora VIB sale. I’m starting my recs out strong with Fenty’s new brow pencil, because as someone with very oily skin, it’s difficult to find a brow product that has a strong enough formula to keep my eyebrows from disappearing throughout the day. This pencil, though, is transfer-proof and waterproof, helping my brows stay bold and beautiful.

I will say since this formula is very long-wearing, as I’ve noticed with some of the other Fenty products, it takes some warming up to get the full effect. The stronger the formula, the more pressure you have to apply to really get the full potential of the product. Once your pencil is ready to go, you have a nice natural or bold brow (depending on your preference) that will stay on no matter where you go.

This pencil is a little different from others in that it has an artisanal brush rather than your standard spoolie for blending. It is a little different to be blending with the brush instead of a spoolie but it does work — it’s all based on personal preference!

Match Stix Matte Skinstick

sephora.com, $25; shop now

If you love a good cream bronzer or highlight, you’re going to love this stick. I bought this a while ago looking for a bronzer to create a little more of a natural glowy look, and I happened upon this matte skinstick.

There are so many different shades for highlight and contour that will blend naturally into your skin. The stick I have is the shade Cocoa for a more cool-toned look. To apply, I draw a line along the angles of my forehead and on the hollows of my cheeks, starting from the bottom of my ear then angling down diagonally. Next, I blend with either a sponge or brush for a blurred, flawless look.

Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer

sephora.com, $30; shop now

On the topic of bronzer, this powder bronzer from Fenty is also my fave. I went into Sephora looking for Fenty’s new bronzer because I had gotten so tan over the summer, and my bronzer would completely blend into my skin without any definition. It was nonexistent. Then I decided to try this one out, and I’m seriously in love.

Upon first application, you do have to really swirl your brush in there to “activate” the product and get the full pigment out of it. Some people might find that annoying, but I personally prefer that since it’s very easy to go from zero to 100 real fast using a new product with such strong pigments as a bronzer. Start out small and gradually build to your desired contour and you’re all set. I’m currently using the shade I$land Ting. No, that’s not a typo. Yes, it is amazing.

Flyliner Longwear Liquid Eyeliner

sephora.com, $20; shop now

If you haven’t noticed already, I struggle a lot with oily skin. I wrote a whole guide to the products that help me manage it, but on some super hot California days, it can be really difficult to keep my makeup on my face. Especially my eye makeup. Eyeliner had been an issue for me whether I have primer on or not, until I discovered the power of the Flyliner. Never in my life did I think I would find a liquid eyeliner that would not budge after an entire day on my face.

The formula is so strong that once it’s on, it’s on. Even if I’m sweating and my eyeshadow is creasing, this liner is the only thing that is still going strong with a satin finish. I’m not sure what magic Rihanna put in this (anyone have her number?), but if you’re in need of an eyeliner that will last you all day, don’t ask questions, just buy it. It’s worth every penny. It only comes in the shade, but once you’ve tried this, that’s the only shade you’ll ever need.

Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer

sephora.com, $26; shop now

We have reached the end of my list, and you might have noticed that I did not include the Fenty Beauty foundation in this article. Now I will tell you that as much as I love this line, the foundation can be really hit or miss for some people. Even though there are 50 shades, this foundation tends to oxidize, which means it can change color slightly once exposed to the air. Luckily, I gave the concealer a chance and realized it does not oxidize. This concealer is very medium-to-full coverage, and it stays put all day.

In my swatch photo, you might be confused as to why I have such a bright shade even though I’m super tan right now. Well, my face at the moment is still pretty olive-toned, and I mainly use this concealer in the shade 300 for under my eyes or as a highlight. It also works well for me in the winter and fall when my skin isn’t as dark, because I can then use it on blemishes. It’s very blendable and creamy, and it has a nice matte finish that isn’t cakey.

This might seem like a steep price to pay for five products, but if you’re into the high-end stuff and want some quality makeup, I’d say invest. A little goes a long way with these products, so trust me, they’ll last you forever. Most of these also have a shelf life of over a year, so once you buy, it’ll stick with you for a while.
