5 Fall Internship Outfits That’ll Be Your Go-To Staples

Finally, my favorite time of the year is approaching — crisp fall air, pumpkin spice drinks, flannels and cardigans, and the beautiful colors of autumn. Fall is a season full of new beginnings, whether you’re starting a new semester of classes or a new job. These next few months are about clean slates and new routines. This is also a pinnacle time of the year for fall internships, and building experience for your budding future. One of the hardest parts that isn’t discussed about new internships is how difficult it is to dress for it! Here are some fall internship outfits to make your mark at your new gig.

Dress codes for any job or internship vary — some places are more casual, while others expect you to dress to impress. In my own experience, it’s nerve-wracking to figure out your outfit ensemble the first few weeks of an internship because you want your wardrobe to match your new workplace’s expectations while also expressing your personality. But thanks to amazing social media creators, there are tons of outfit ideas all over TikTok, and affordable places where you can purchase the pieces to achieve those looks.

Nude Outfit Ensembles

You can never go wrong with nude or beige pieces for your outfits, especially because they are tones that you can mix and match effortlessly. The key to any amazing workplace outfit is a pair of fitted trousers. Trousers look professional, but also super chic. You can grab this affordable pair of Livvy Wide-Leg Pants from Hollister ($38) or splurge a bit more on this Curve Love A&F Sloane Tailored Pant from Abercrombie ($77) to act as the foundation of this outfit. Then, opt for a stylish cream mock neck top ($18, H&M) or a beige textured top ($7, SHEIN) to spice up the outfit. You can stop there, but I’d add a blazer ($52) and chunky loafers ($39) from Amazon to complete the look!

Silk Skirt & A Sweater Combo

The best part about fall internships is you have a wide range of pieces to wear and layer, especially sweaters! One of my fave looks that is super chic for in and outside the workplace is a colored silk pencil skirt ($40, Old Navy) with a black or white turtleneck sweater ($21, Forever 21) to layer it with. For shoes, you can play it safe with flat loafers ($30, Old Navy) or be more daring and wear black leather booties ($50, Amazon). If you ever need outfit ideas for any occasion, give @TimelesslyTrendy on TikTok a look! They helped me when I was in a total fashion funk.

Little Black Dress

A black business-casual dress ($40, Amazon) is a MUST for your internship. It’s perfect for those days when you don’t have time to put an outfit together! All you have to do is pair with shoes that you’re feeling that day, whether it’s flats or heels, anything works.

Colored Trousers & Silk Button-Up

If you’re dying to add more color to your outfits, the best way to do so in a chic way is to get a pair of trousers in a fun color, but pair them with a cream or black silk button-up ($52, Princess Polly). Silk tops are perfect for staying comfortable and fashionable. This outfit is the perfect opportunity to have fun — don’t forget to wear pink heels ($48, Amazon) to match your trousers.

Jeans & BodySuit

For those days you want to opt for a casual look, a pair of light-wash denim jeans is perfect. I’d suggest wide-leg or ‘90s straight jeans, my all-time fave pair are the Ultra High Rise ‘90s Straight Jean from Abercombie ($76). Pair your jeans with a neutral bodysuit ($18, Amazon) and layer with a cream cardigan ($50, Amazon) to feel extra cozy. Your casual outfit will be appropriate for your internship, but also perfect for after-work activities.
