Her Campus Profile: Ivanka Soto

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at York U chapter.

This week, I had the privilege to talk to Ivanka, one of my fellow social media team members. She is a Kinesiology and Health Sciences major who wants to become a registered kinesiologist and dreams of traveling the world to the countries she’d most like to visit, and eventually start her own business internationally. Read on to find out more about her.

Name: Ivanka Soto

Age: 23

Year and Major: 2nd year, Major in Kinesiology and Health Sciences.

Hometown: Mississauga, ON

Any pets?

I have one pet, a German Shepherd who’s super big for a 9 month old pup! But he’s super playful.

Describe yourself in three words.

An ambivert, easygoing and passionate.

Favorite season?

Definitely summer!

What weird food combinations do you really enjoy?

I love having french fries with chocolate milk, sliced bananas in my Kellogg’s frosted corn flakes cereal and fried plantain with any meal. Also, hot chocolate with a slice of cheese in it, it’s so good!

What are your hobbies?

Going to dance classes, swimming, soccer, working out, playing with my dog, spending time with my family & friends, binge-watching movies and shows on Netflix that are filled with comedy, action or thrilling-suspense. I also enjoy taking naps on a daily basis and playing video games once in a while.

Which movie can you watch over and over without ever getting tired of?

Oh, this is hard… But I would have to say Bella, Chef, Guardians of the Galaxy or Take the Lead.

What was the best book or series that you’ve ever read?

Little Women and The Great Gatsby.

What’s your dream vacation?

To be in a bungalow house, on the shore of any beach that’s warm with soft sands covered with trees and clear crystal waters, leading to the ocean where I can learn how to surf and scuba dive with all the aquarium animals and see the coral reef.

Where is the most interesting place you’ve been?

Besides the concrete jungle of NYC, probably when I visited the Mayan pyramids in Chichen-Itza, Mexico when I was little. I thought that was the most fascinating place I’ve ever been to thus far.

If you could pick five people to have dinner with living or dead who would they be?

Oh, there’s so many people who come to mind… I would have dinner with Daddy Yankee, Massy Arias, my grandmother, Selena Quintanilla and J Cole.

Why did you want to join Her Campus at York U?

I wanted to learn and actually experience what it meant to be promoting  a club at school. I won’t lie, I thought it was easy at first but behind the scenes, handling a social media account is very challenging sometimes. The whole experience of learning what visuals to use, trying different fonts and styles to capture people’s attention, getting the right picture to set the aesthetics, etc… it’s quite a task. I really enjoy it though, and I like to promote things when I get the chance to.

Who is your role model?

My role model would have to be my mother and Massy Arias; they both are my definition of what it means to be a great woman and loving mother with attributes of discipline, determination, perseverance and faithfulness.

What do you hope to do after you graduate?

I’d like to become a registered Kinesiologist, travel to the countries I’d like to visit and start a business internationally.
