Fight Your Acne With these 5 Homemade Facials

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at York U chapter.

I have suffered from acne since my teenage years. Over the years, I tried many acne-fighting brand products, but also I learned how to make homemade acne remedies through Pinterest. Here are the top five homemade face masks to deal with acne.

Green Tea, Honey, Lemon, & Sugar

Recipe:

  • 1 tablespoon of green tea (tea bag or Matcha green tea)

  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey

  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

  • 3 teaspoons of sugar (preferably brown)

Mix all the ingredients and apply the paste over your face — excluding the eyes, mouth, and eyebrows. Rub the paste over the face for 1-2 minutes in a slow, circular movement. Leave on for 10-15 minutes. While rinsing off with warm water, use a washcloth for added exfoliating effects.

Baking Soda, Honey, Coconut/Olive Oil

Recipe:

  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda

  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey

  • 1 teaspoon of coconut/olive oil

Mix all the ingredients and apply the paste over your face — excluding the eyes, mouth, and eyebrows. Rub the paste over the face for 1-2 minutes in a slow and circular movement. Leave on for 10-15 minutes. While rinsing off with warm water, use a washcloth for added exfoliating effects.

Turmeric, Raw Milk/Greek Yogurt, Honey

  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric

  • 3 teaspoons of raw milk/greek yogurt (full fat, unflavored)

  • 1 teaspoon of raw honey

Mix all the ingredients and apply the paste over your face — excluding the eyes, mouth, and eyebrows. Use a makeup brush or cotton balls to apply the paste and to avoid staining your fingers. Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes.

Tip: Make sure to lay paper towels around the sink to catch any spills.

Remove with a cotton ball or washcloth. If there is a yellow tint remaining, you can remove with diluted apple cider vinegar mixed with water, or a gentle toner.

Cinnamon, Honey, Aloe Vera

  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon (preferably ceylon)

  • 3 teaspoons of raw honey

  • 1 inch of fresh aloe vera plant (only the inside gel) or 2 teaspoon of aloe vera juice

Mix all the ingredients and apply the paste over your face — excluding the eyes, mouth, and eyebrows. Rub the paste over the face for 1 minute, in a slow and circular movement. Leave on for 10 minutes.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Honey, Baking Soda

  • 1 teaspoon of organic apple cider vinegar

  • 2 teaspoons of raw honey

  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda

Mix all the ingredients and apply the paste over your face — excluding the eyes, mouth, and eyebrows. Leave this mask on for 10-15 minutes. While rinsing off with warm water, use a washcloth for added exfoliating effects.

This mask is good for removing blackheads. Do not use this mask if you have sensitive skin. If you feel an intolerable burning sensation, wash it off right away.

Acne is very hard to maintain, especially when the cause is something like stress. These five face masks are useful when you are fighting your battle with acne. They will also leave your skin feeling fresh and soft after you rinse.
