Pumpkin Spice Or Roll The Dice: Alternative Fall Favorites

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

October is upon us and all I see is pumpkin spice products. Pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin spice breads, even pumpkin spice candles. For many, pumpkin spice screams fall. However, if you are like me and indifferent to this fall favorite, look no further for alternatives to get you in the fall mood. Personally, I love the smells of apple and cinnamon. This smell transports me to crisp, cool nights in September.

Apple

Just like pumpkin spice, apple flavors come in a variety of delicious fall goods. There’s the ever-classic warm apple cider that you can wrap your hands around while sitting in front of a bonfire, as well as another classic— apple pie. A homemade pie is always best. If you wanna take a go at it, Taste of Home has a great recipe. Not only is this a delicious treat but this can be a fun activity at home with your friends, family or significant other. One of my personal favorite apple goods is apple butter. Starting your day off with apple butter spread across toast can put you in the perfect fall mood.

Chai

If apples are also not your fall vibe, try chai. Starbucks’s Chai Latte is divine. It is a chai base mix with milk, which is then frothed. This sweet, spicy drink provides a light but warm sensation that will keep you cozy all fall long. If you want a matching baked good to snack on, try My Baking Addiction’s recipe for chai sugar cookies. Chai spice also comes in the most amazing candles. The cinnamon and nutmeg smells are a perfect pairing, both of which are typically infused in chai candles. You can buy one on Amazon.

Banana

Still haven’t found your fall go-to? The last option is bananas! Yes, this may be a weird one, but banana baked goods can instantly bring a fall sensation. A personal favorite recipe of mine is this banana bread with a coffee cake crumble by A Latte Food. The warmth of the banana bread with the sweetness of the crumble instantly puts me in a good mood. Another option to try are these banana spice cookies by Two Sisters Crafting. Pretty much anything that contains a spice combination will make you feel the cozy, warm sensation that so many yearn for in a pumpkin spice product.

Hopefully some of these ideas can help put you in an autumn mood! Now, throw on a sweater, grab a chai latte and snack on a piece of apple pie.
