It’s already two months into the New Year, so how are your health and fitness goals adding up? Are you still on track for the spring and summer months rapidly approaching?

Quick tips on eating out and consciously:

  • Look for healthier alternatives on the menu and ask for substitutes if the sides don’t fit your nutritional requisites. For example, at Qdoba ask for brown rice instead of white; it has much more fiber, and it’s a complex carb, meaning your body understands it and breaks it down more slowly than a simple carb (think sugars and junk food).
  • Opt out of meat and choose a lower calorie version of protein such as tofu or beans such as chick peas!
  • A great on-the-go snack is a smoothie with lots of veggies and fruits such as the Acai smoothie from Jamba Juice or the Greens n’ Apple!
  • Water, water, water, water and once again water. Your body is primarily made up of water so why your you “replenishing” it with soda or highly unnaturally sweetened products? Water, plain and simple, is the way to go.
Ana Valentin is a freshman at William Paterson with a wrong major in Environmental Science but will be transferring in the spring to Elementary Special Education and English Creative Writing, She has a burning love for all things glitter, beautiful, and fashionable. You'll probably find her in the student cafe sucking down a machiatto. If you do, feel free to say hello. She likes those too.
