I have been a vegetarian for almost nine years, and coming to school I was terrified that I wouldn’t be able to find anything to eat on campus. It was a struggle at first, but I think I’ve found the best options for vegetarian foods.
Surprisingly, there are a ton of choices at Gordon. You can create your own killer stir fry and have the option to add tofu. You can also make sandwiches, but there aren’t protein options for vegetarians, so it can be a little unsatisfying. There are always custom and premade salads if you’re in a rush.
However, if you’ve gotten sick of the same thing every day at Gordon, like I am, you’re probably looking for a change.
Union South and Memorial Union both take Wiscard (YAY) and have a ton of great food. At Carte you can make your own salad or get any of their amazing creations. They are super nice about letting you substitute ingredients. Also in Memorial Union is Strada where you can again make your own creation. At Strada, though, your options are pasta or pizza instead of salads. Although I’ve never been, at Union South there is Ginger Root for Chinese/Asian-Fusion food and Harvest Grains for soups and sandwiches — both of which I have heard rave reviews about.
If you don’t want to walk all the way to either union, State Street is packed full of restaurants for vegetarians to thrive at. Forage is a little expensive, but you can get killer salads and grain bowls. Further down State is Glaze. Glaze is a great teriyaki restaurant where you can get tofu, vegetables or salmon — if you’re a pescatarian.
If you don’t want a sit-down restaurant, there are a ton of food trucks closer to the bookstore. My all time favorites are the $4 spring rolls the size of someone’s head, and the amazing tofu with noodles at Hibachi Hut.
Don’t get stuck in a rut eating the same food anymore. Try one of these restaurants; you won’t regret it, I promise!
