5 Reasons KAMPS Yoga is Our New Favorite Workout

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Nothing excites me more than a new workout class. As someone who mostly goes on outdoor runs, I’m always looking for something new to change up my exercise routine. I found some of the best workouts for me to be yoga classes — it’s a workout and a therapy all wrapped up into one activity. I’ve tried yoga classes in different places in Madison, but I think I just found a new favorite. Last week, I was lucky enough to try a yoga class at KAMPS with a group of my Her Campus friends. Although KAMPS is a high-intensity fitness training studio, it also offers yoga classes that make for both a great workout and mental relaxation. The class is taught by a young woman named Caz — she was truly amazing. Everyone Her Campus girl who tried KAMPS yoga loved it, and here’s why:

1. Caz, the instructor, makes you feel super comfortable.

Yoga can be both an intimate and intimidating workout, especially since people in yoga classes generally vary in experience and flexibility. Caz is so welcoming and friendly; she gets rid of any discomfort you might have before class even starts. I told her in the beginning that I was a little nervous because I’m not too flexible, and she immediately told me that was okay. She told me that was why I was taking yoga — to work on my flexibility.

2. The playlist

I never really associate yoga classes with good music, but this class helped me make that connection. Most yoga classes I’ve taken use really slow instrumental music or chanting. This class had a calming playlist that also helped me stay energized. I recognized a lot of songs, and that kept me engaged in the class.

3. The workout

Some yoga classes are super laid-back. Although I enjoy relaxing, as someone who is always on the go, I can get kind of antsy when I’m moving very slowly. KAMPS yoga striked the perfect balance between a workout class and a yoga class. There were not only classic yoga poses and meditation, there were also some strengthening and core exercises.

4. It’s not too hot

I honestly don’t know where in Madison you can go for a yoga class that isn’t hot yoga. Hot yoga is great sometimes because you can sweat everything out; but if you don’t drink enough water before it, the heat can make you feel really lightheaded. KAMPS yoga isn’t hot yoga; but it’s a little warm in the room, which helps you loosen up your muscles.  It’s the perfect temperature, if you ask me.

5. The “me” time

With our busy schedules, we rarely have time for ourselves. KAMPS yoga is a refresher for both the body and the mind — it gives you a chance to reflect and regroup on a stressful week. Caz reminded us that “When you’re on your mat, no one else matters.”  I was so thankful I was able to take an hour out of my day for myself. I felt so refreshed and rewarded afterward.

I loved KAMPS yoga for all these reasons above — it just felt so much more personal and motivating than other yoga studios in and around Madison.

KAMPS’s location couldn’t be any more convenient — it’s located on 435 North Frances St., right near Colectivo. Plus, the studio and staff were awesome. You should definitely swing by KAMPS or visit their website if you want to learn more about their studio and offerings. Here’s a big thank you to KAMPS and Caz for letting Her Campus take a class at the studio! I’ll definitely be back, and not just for the Shavasana!
