With the end of fall break, autumn has quickly made its way into the Forest. Shades of red are slowly consuming the sun beaten green of the trees’ leaves and chilly breezes are allowing us to finally embrace sweater weather. The season is notoriously the season of change, but this year why don’t we familiarize ourselves with our roots and change alongside nature.

Redefine You

I know that over the years I have pinned a million quotes on Pinterest about the type of person I hope I am or the person I hope to become. So often, the idea of changing who you are is ridiculed because you can be considered “fake,” but I think that wanting to change who you are is a way of self-improvement and a motivation to become a better me. So, pick out a quote or a message and live up to those words.

(Re)Develop Healthy Habits

In this season of change, why not work on getting rid of bad habits. Start by making sure you are getting the sleep your body needs at night, eating foods that make you feel good, and staying healthy. I know most college students are in the midst of midterms, so start enforcing healthy habits to prevent sluggishness and illness to stay in the best shape possible to help you through your busy weeks.

Who Are Your People?

Such an important aspect of a good life is having people in it that you can count on anytime. If you have unhealthy relationships with people, work on reflecting on how they could be improved, or if you need to reevaluate if it needs to end, do what is best for you.  But at the same time, you can express your love for those who make your everyday better.

Take More Risks

Getting caught up with familiar can be so easy, so why not try exploring the boundaries outside of your comfort zone. Change is not final and taking healthy risks will do no harm. Do some reflecting on what you want to take a chance on and go for it. Taking risks means being brave and taking risks challenges you to explore what you do not know. Whether it be trying a new food, talking to someone new, or being more you, risk can be a way of subtle change.

The Gut Has Reason

I know that I often doubt myself, but this fall I will be listening a lot more to my own intuition. It is so easy to go against what your gut is telling you and it makes you end up in the opposite direction that you wanted, so try to not let anything get in the way of where you want to go. Only you can know what is best for yourself, so let go of outside influences and do what that inner voice is telling you to do.
