5 Menstrual Cycle Pain Hacks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

Every woman goes through it. The beautiful menstrual cycle. Some have it easier than others. For those of us who cannot avoid the lovely symptoms that Mother Nature has laid upon us, here are some hacks to make the worst week out of the month feel bearable.

1. Invest In A Heating Device

I’ve read some places that a hot water bottle works wonders when it comes to cramps. If you need something instant try a heating cap that you use for your hair. For me, I take a hot wash cloth and place it in a sandwich bag. I place the bag on my lower abs to get the blood flowing.

2. Work Out

I know this is probably the one time of the month you don’t want to move or do anything but getting some cardio in increases your endorphin levels which help the body deal with depression and physical pain.

3.  Sleep, Sleep, Sleep

This step comes naturally to us but some try to avoid it. Don’t! Letting your body rest helps you feel better for the rest of your cycle.

4. Eat Dark Chocolate

Eating a piece of dark chocolate daily helps boost your mood and reduces those powerful cravings.

5. Stay Away From Salty Foods

Salty foods is probably my number one go to when on my cycle. Turns out the less salty food you consume the less water you retain which means you won’t feel uncomfortably bloated.
