Do You Know About Campus Services?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWindsor chapter.

To most university students, it can be a little stressful from time to time. This can include anything from dealing with the required course work, to potentially fitting a job in, or even trying to salvage a working social life so you can tell yourself that you do in fact have friends. Contrary to popular belief, the university does actually offer a wide selection of group activities and facilities that can help you calm down or even meet some fun and interesting people.

Although I have to warn you, some of these clubs might not live up to the expectations of all those college/university movies we’ve all seen. But that being said, it’s still worth the time to look into a few to see if it’s something you might enjoy.

One of the more popular activities in the university is visiting the gym located in the St Denis center.  Most people might feel intimidated when venturing out to this new and undiscovered place. The truth is, the gym is quite the inviting place, and while some may seem very intimidating, all you need to know is that most people there are very happy to help. If you can’t find a willing volunteer, the help desk is always ready to show you how it’s done. Also, the St Denis center is much more than just a giant weight room. They have many amenities that could interest a wide variety of potential new “gym rats” such as: open courts, indoor/outdoor track, the pool and many different programs for anyone interested in getting fit without interfering with their schedule.

Another service the university offers is participation in many and diverse clubs, groups, or organizations. To find the club that best suits you, it might require a little research on your behalf but you’re bound to find one that . Some examples of different clubs/ associations are the pre-law society, Campus Ministry, HerCampus or if you’re a business student, the Odette society. A great way to find clubs is by visiting the CAW during Welcome Week.Or, just simply go on the club registry from the university’s home page.

On a more serious note, there are other services all students should be aware of. An important  example is Health services. During the process of going through post secondary education, an individual is bound to become ill at least once, so take advantage of the clinic situated right on the second floor of the CAW. Or, if you’re having an issue and you just need to tell someone, there is always counsellors ready to talk about anything you want to. Always remember to look out for yourself and seek help if you need to.
