1. Visit a sports store that sells running shoes to have your foot analyzed.

If you go to a store like New Balance or Nike they have people who will measure your foot size. Even if you already know your size, it is still useful to do this when shopping for running shoes. The employees can then help you choose shoes to try on based on your foot type; including flat, neutral, and high-arched.

2. Wear the right socks.

When you go to the store make sure you are wearing athletic socks. This way you will know if they are comfortable or not. If you wear thicker socks then your shoes will not fit right.

3. Make sure there is a half a thumb to a full thumb room of length from your big toe to the shoe.

Running causes your feet to swell so this will insure the extra space so your shoes aren’t too tight.

4. Before buying shoes, test them in the store by jogging around.

Doing this you can make sure the shoes are comfortable for running and not just standing. Walk/jog around the store or even try out one of the treadmills.

5. Don’t buy based on brand.

It is true that some brands are better than others, but don’t buy a pair solely based on this or the way they look. It is more important for the shoe to be comfortable than for your feet than fashionable.

I am a freshman attending the University of Wisconsin Stout. My major is Professional Communication and Emerging Media with a concentration in Applied Journalism. I am from a small town in Southeast Wisconsin. I love everything and anything Disney. Recently, I have gotten into RunDisney. It brings my love of Disney together with living a healthier lifestyle. After college, I hope to obtain a job with Disney, preferably in the RunDisney division.
