This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

We are almost finished with finals. That means stress leaves and summer arrives. Soon you will be hitting the beach or the pool and rocking those new cute summer trends. If you’re still trying to accomplish your goal of feeling better, being healthier, or hitting the gym more often than these tips are for you. Even though getting back to the gym may seem like a daunting task there are some ways to ease into that new workout routine. 1.     Find a workout buddy

Schedule a time every week to meet some friends at the gym. Working out with a friend has multiple benefits. You can push each other to finish that last deadly set of squats. You can spend quality time with people you love and now not only are you accountable to yourself, but you’re accountable to your workout buddy. Plus suffering through a spin class together is a great way to bond!(photo courtesy of shape.com)

2.     Designate a show to watch while working out

Elliptical or treadmill routines can feel monotonous and boring at times. Find a show you are addicted to and make a promise to yourself that you will only watch it while working out. Shows written by Shonda Rhimes are highly recommend for this trick. By doing this you’ll want to workout at least once a week in order to watch your favorite show.

3.     Reward yourself incrementally

Every month you’ve accomplished your workout goal make sure to reward yourself. Feel free to adjust the increment to match your goals. Your reward could range from your favorite slice of cake or new yoga pants. By rewarding yourself in recognition of working hard you will feel more motivated to continue.

4.     Change into your workout clothes

Even when working out is the last thing you want to do, try to at least change into your workout clothes. Changing into your workout clothes is a visual reminder that you have committed yourself to trying to get in shape or be healthier. Also, when someone sees you in your workout clothes you won’t want to admit that you never actually made it to the gym.

5.     Create a gym tracker

Put a calendar up somewhere visible to track when you’ve gone to the gym. Each day you go the gym put a mark on the calendar, such as a scribble or sticker. Crossing each day off will become a small reward and will make you feel surprisingly accomplished.(photo courtesy of pexels.com)

Now go out there and kill that workout!
