When I first joined a swim team, one of the things that I had to change about my daily routine was cutting down on the amount of junk food that I ate. I mean seriously, I used to eat chips and chocolate and I’d feel so guilty afterward. After my coach told me that I had to work on eating healthier to be in the best shape, I thought long and hard about if there was anything to eat that tastes good and was also good for you. My grandma in India told me to try out this snack that I could modify with all kinds of spices and it would still be very healthy. Turns out it was a common thing in my household and all I had to do was toss them into a pan, add some chili powder, and wait for them to get crunchy! That’s it! The easiest and fastest snack to make!

A couple of years later, I stumble upon AshaPops, a brand that made this healthy snack into deliciously guilt-free munchies! Popped Water Lily Seeds are the seeds of Euryale Ferox, a water lily plant that grows in India. Recommended by the ancient Indian holistic healing science called Ayurveda, this delicious plant-based puffed superfood has a light and crunchy puff texture. It’s vegan, paleo friendly, gluten-free, grain-free, corn-free, non-GMO, contains 4g of plant-based protein, is only 100 calories per bag, and is a great source of magnesium. This bag has all the right ingredients and tastes amazing. And it comes in flavors like Chili Lime, Vegan Cheese, and Dark Chocolate! So I guess it’s true what they say — mother knows best! Especially in the case of Asha Farswani, who revolutionized preservative-filled snacks by creating a healthy alternative. Having grown up in the hills of Western India and following a strict vegetarian diet that balances the body, mind, consciousness, and promotes natural healing, she grew up eating water lily popped seeds (called Makhaane in India.)

When a doctor prescribed magnesium pills for trouble sleeping a few years ago, she turned to the seeds as a natural supplement instead! For many of us, the mere thought of working with a parent is enough to upset our body/mind balance. But Jai insists they’re the perfect team, with his role as a numbers-oriented logical thinker, complimented by Asha’s high emotional intelligence and creativity. There’s no question that Asha is brimming with emotional intellect — she’s essentially harnessed nature in order to serve a population that’s increasingly time-constrained, allergen sensitive, and/or nutritionally in need.

I am so happy to have gotten to know about this mother-daughter duo and join the loving AshaPop family to celebrate this healthy snack! So, what are you waiting for?
