5 Things You Need To Buy To Make Life Easier This Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

The start of a new semester brings many fresh disappointments. The lunch that leaked all over your new notebooks because your Tupperware lid fell off on your way to class. The leggings that ripped at the gym because you bought them for $5 back during the Great Leggings Craze of 2014. You might not be able to make up missed classes this semester, but you can definitely update the gear that gets you there. Below, five items I keep in my arsenal to make college life a little easier. Happy shopping, collegiettes!

A Pair of Leggings That Can Conquer It All

Zella leggings, $54

I bought these leggings at the recommendation of a friend, tired of cheaper brands that were practically see-through and hesitant to drop $100 on a pair from Lululemon. These leggings are perfect* for class or the gym, and clock in at half the price.

A Lunchbox That’s Really an Unsung Hero

Monbento Lunch Box, $33

My roommate turned me onto the Monbento lunch box, after hearing me complain about Tupperware for months on end, and I’ve never looked back. The slim shape tucks perfectly in to your backpack or a large tote, and the airtight seal prevents non-liquid foods from leaking. Additionally, the top compartment is designed for storing silverware or a small ice pack, making this lunchbox a real winner for on-the-go eating3

Shoes That Are Actually Made for Walking

New Balance 520 Running Sneakers, $80

Life on campus at the U means A LOT of walking, which means that I usually try to avoid rolling up to campus in three-inch heels. I bought a pair of New Balance sneakers the summer before freshman year after barely making it through the walking involved in freshman orientation. These Saucony sneakers are also a solid pick for about $30 less, and are perfect for anyone who a) Wants shoes made with 100% vegan materials, b) Wants to look even more like a 90s father figure, or c) Remembers the New Balance Trump comments from 2016.

A Water Bottle Because Every Meme You’re Tagged in On Facebook is Reminding You To Stay Hydrated

Cotopaxi Agua Water Bottle, $25

I actually won a 17 oz. version of this water bottle at an event on campus, and it’s been responsible for my hydration for about two years now. My water stays cold, and the slim fit of the water bottle stows away nicely in my backpack or tote. Plus, this bottle is much cheaper than many other popular brands, and buying Cotopaxi allows you to support a brand that is local to Utah. Win-win!

The Sweater Saver That You Can Buy for $10

32 Degrees Women’s Cozy Heat Long Sleeve Top, $10

Sweaters are hard to wash, and over-washing can lead to pilling, matting, and general gross-ness, depending on the type of sweater you’re dealing with. Base layer tees can keep your sweaters fresher, and make it much easier to wear that one sweater that’s just a tiny bit itchy. Plus, you can buy get these tees for under $10 – and they’re much easier to wash than your favorite velvet-look sweater.

And there you have it! Five items to help you conquer spring semester. Good luck this year, collegiettes!.
