I used to think that spin classes were for middle aged moms who would workout in the early morning before dropping their kids off at school. But now I know I was totally wrong. I never thought of going to one until I saw posts on Instagram of girls that I knew attending different spin classes. Little did I know I would fall in love with the classes and instructors.

Low impact exercise

If you’re recovering from a surgery or you just want to take it a little easier then this is the perfect exercise to try. I have struggled with knee problems and shin splints since high school and cycling has allowed me to keep my body moving without putting large amounts of strain on healing parts of my body.

Cardiovascular fitness

Cardiovascular fitness is the ability to get oxygenated blood to the muscles. This allows for the muscles to produce energy to move. Aerobic exercise such as cycling is the perfect way to increase the ability for your body to do this.

A great core and leg workout

The strength of your legs and core are very important in your everyday life. Your legs keep you standing and moving around while your core keeps you upright. So it should be known that it is very important to keep those parts of your body as strong as possible. Plus your muscles will look very toned!

“happy” hormones are released

When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins which reduce the perception of pain and trigger a positive feeling through the body as they interact with the receptors in your brain. Because of the endorphins we feel when exercising, our brain can create a positive connotation with the exercise we are doing that makes us feel them!

it’s fun!

In my opinion this is the best cardio exercise I have found so far. For me, cardio can feel strenuous and boring, but when I am in one of these cycle classes, the 45 minutes goes by so fast. Every time I have gone to a class the instructors are always happy to see you which creates a very welcoming environment. My favorite classes are when they are themed. For example, a One Direction cycle class is life changing!

I could go on and on about the benefits of cycling classes. But all I need to say is that if you are having trouble staying active, making friends, or even just finding a new hobby, give cycling a try!
