10 Times You’re the Awful Roommate

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

We all like to think we’re perfect. But do you ever look around at a kitchen you just destroyed trying to cook perfect mac and cheese or an entire bag of your roommate’s Oreos that you’ve just devoured and think, “I’m the problem”?

Nobody’s perfect. And that’s okay. Below are ten situations you definitely relate to if you have ever been a *less* than perfect living mate.

1. So sometimes you “accidentally” eat too much of your roomie’s food…

I’m sorry I took “help yourself” way too literally.

2. Sometimes you’re the one being loud at 1:00 AM when somebody else is trying to go to sleep…

Oops.

3. Shout out to the dishes that have been in the sink for three days because you haven’t done the dishes

Girls just wanna have fun…and dishes are HARDLY fun. What can I say?

4. And the clothes you left all over the floor

5. Remember the time you brought friends home right as your roommate was getting ready for bed?

6. And don’t forget the time you brought a guy home without telling anyone.

Next time I’ll leave an awkward voicemail when you don’t respond to my “Don’t come upstairs” text.

7. You sometimes leave your stuff in the common area

So my whole wardrobe is down here this week…

8. And every now and then “I only sing when I’m home alone” turns into “I only sing when I’m 60% sure I’m home alone.”

9. You admit that you are kind of extra a lot of the time.

10. But sometimes you actually keep your side of the room clean and wash your dishes, so you feel like you sort of make up for it.

Every now and then we all kind of suck. But as long as you’re a considerate roommate 90% of the time you’re doing better than most of the roommates out there. And that’s what matters most.
