After having to move out into my own dorm room early on into the year, here is my advice and this is what I wished I would have considered when picking a roommate:

  1. Lifestyle differences don’t make for a good roommate if you aren’t both willing to compromise.
  2. Clarify your expectations of a roommate beforehand.
  3. Understand that you don’t have to be friends, you just have to be able to live with each other.
  4. Communication is key and it takes everyone to do so.
  5. Being mindful of others is essential for peace.
  6. Don’t take things personally if it doesn’t work out, you are sharing tight quarters and it doesn’t mean that you are tough to deal with.
Hello! I am a current UNT student studying to get my major in Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations and minoring in Marketing. My involvement in Her Campus was a result of my alignment with women's empowerment and my love for connecting with others. Besides spending majority of my time as a college student or working, I love to watch Marvel movies, paint, visit new places, and eat mac and cheese!
