Drug Store Skin Care: Friend or Foe?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNH chapter.

Everything we eat, drink, and do affects our skin. Especially now, having to wear a mask, our skincare is just as important as ever. While there is speculation about being able to find good, affordable skincare, I have found a drug store brand that does my skin wonders. I know drugstore brands can be scary and filled with harsh chemicals, but this brand really does the job. I have been using Garnier SkinActive for over 6 months and it has done wonders for my skin. Here are my top 6 Garnier SkinActive products.

1. Garnier Micellar Water All-in-1 Waterproof

This product will forever be my number one! The micellar water is a cleanser and makeup remover that works on waterproof makeup. I usually like to rock a winged eyeliner look, and this product on medium-size cotton rounds takes that whole look right off. I use this every morning and night whether I wear makeup or not, to get rid of dirt on my skin. The micellar water leaves my skin feeling very clean, and gives me a natural glowing look that I desire, without looking too greasy. The 13.5 fl.oz bottle lasts me about a month and costs $8.99.

2. Refreshing Facial Wash with Aloe

My favorite foaming cleanser is this facial wash with aloe. My skin always feels very clean after using this. The cleanser does not make my skin feel heavy or oily after washing. Other cleansers I have tried used to leave a strong smell on my skin, while this one has a light scent of aloe and freshness. This is $8.99 for 6.7 flo.oz, and this bottle usually lasts me 3 weeks.

3. Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel Cream

While I don’t have very abnormally dry skin, I have very dry skin under eyes and nose. I use this moisturizer on those areas and it really helps replenish my skin. I especially like to use this when I am going to wear foundation later on in the day because those dry sections of my skin can look really caky unless properly moisturized. This is $5.99.

4. Glow Boost 2-in-1 Facial Mask and Scrub

My skin never feels better after using this scrub/mask. The fact that its a scrub and a mask is even better. I put on a medium layer of this, leave it on for 5 minutes, scrub a little bit, and then wash it off. The glow my skin gets is immaculate. I use this once a week. This is $8.99 for 6.76 fl.oz and it gives me about ten uses.

5. Water Rose 24H Moisture Cream (For Normal to Dry Skin)

This moisturizer is perfect after a day at the beach. Your skin feels smooth and hydrated, helping fix any damage fast. My skin feels cool and refreshed, especially if my face burns at the beach. This is $14.99 and lasted me all summer. I don’t use it too often, but when I do it does wonders.

6. Girls, you know the struggling of finding a good peel-off charcoal mask. Well, I have found you a good one for a good price. This peel-off mask is only $7.99, and lasts me a long time. The mask actually seeps into my blackheads and pulls out whatever gunk is in there. Some masks don’t do this well, but this one does the job. I usually apply it to my forehead, nose, and chin. This mask really helps god rid of those pesky blackheads that are always popping up.
