With fall break rapidly approaching, many students are making plans to go home with friends or have a nice weekend away, but for the students who are staying on campus over the long weekend, boredom can seem inevitable. But even though the campus may become a ghost town over fall break, there are still many ways to have fun without going home. Here are some fun ways to spend fall break on or around your campus!

Make a fall feast. Even though dining options at school may be limited over break, you can still make some fall treats in your dorm kitchen with friends. Try a new recipe, like pumpkin pasta, or stick to a classic like hot chocolate and invite friends over for a family dinner.

Enjoy the outdoors. With the weather (hopefully) getting cooler, now is the perfect time to step outside and breathe in the crisp, autumn air. You might not have access to a state park or local lake, but just walking around campus to see the changing leaves can be very relaxing and refreshing.

Get ahead on work. It may sound boring, but catching up on work or trying to get ahead in classes can be a great way to have a productive fall break. With many students gone, it may also be a good time to try out new study places or get the peace and quiet you need to get work done.

Try out some new crafts. Fall break is the perfect time to stock up on decorations and make your room look fall ready with some DIY. This could include plastic pumpkins, new string lights, decorative pillows and maybe even a wreath. Your room will definitely become the new hangout spot when all of your friends see it after break.

Try some retail therapy. Checking out your local thrift stores for a new sweater, flannel or cute fall boots can help you get in the mood, so you’ll be ready when that cold weather finally kicks in.

However you choose to spend your fall break, just remember that it marks the halfway point of the semester and be proud of how far you’ve already come. Happy fall!
