The Popcorn Recipes You Have Been Waiting For

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UMKC chapter.

Popcorn is widely known as a snack but it can also be a meal. Yes, you heard that right––popcorn can be your dinner. If you’re feeling fancy sitting in your dorm room while binging Netflix and don’t want to walk to the cafeteria to get dinner? Popcorn. These are some of my favorite ways to dress up the most essential snack. For all these recipes, the ingredients are available at your local Target and in total will cost you around $20! I recommend purchasing the Target Market Pantry Sea Salt Microwave Popcorn, only $2.60 for a pack of six if you decide to try out any of these recipes.

Rosemary Parmesan Popcorn

Ingredients:

  1. One bag of Microwavable Popcorn

  2. Himalayan Pink Salt

  3. Dry Rosemary

  4. Parmesan

  5. One Tablespoon of Butter

Directions:

Pop your popcorn according to the directions on the bag. Once popped, melt the butter. Pour the popcorn into a large bowl. While the butter is melting, shake the parmesan on the popcorn. Drizzle the butter over the popcorn. Add a dash of rosemary and a pinch of salt and ta-da! A beautiful bowl of ~FANCY~ microwave popcorn.

Hot Sauce Popcorn with a Twist

Ingredients:

  1. One bag of Microwavable Popcorn

  2. Frank’s RedHot Original Hot Sauce

  3. Grated Parmesan

  4. One Tablespoon of Butter (optional)

Directions:

Pop your popcorn again, following the directions on the bag and also listening for the pops to slow down so that you don’t burn down your dorm. Leave the popcorn in the bag and pour the desired amount of hot sauce over the popcorn. Close the bag and shake. Next, add parmesan and give it another good shake and you’re set! You can add butter for extra flavor, but it’s totally not required.

The Zesty Speciality

Ingredients:

  1. One bag of Microwavable Popcorn

  2. Lemon Juice

  3. Grated Parmesan

  4. Himalayan Pink Salt

  5. One Tablespoon of Butter

Directions:

Once more, pop your popcorn. Pour popcorn into the bowl while you melt the butter. Drizzle with butter and add the parmesan on top. Shake the bowl a little, before adding the lemon juice. Dash with salt and once again you have a glorious bowl of popcorn.

These recipes might sound weird but I promise that they taste amazing. It’s getting colder out here in Kansas City, so you will have something new to try and share with your friends. Happy popcorn popping!

Amira is currently a senior at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She is always smiling with a kombucha in her hand & blasting her multiple Céline Dion CD's in her car because duh, the radio can't beat Céline Dion. On any given day she will gladly talk your ear off about Grey's Anatomy, stronger background checks for gun purchases and why immigrants are some of the most important members of our society.
