5 Healthy Alternatives For Junk Food

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

Are you still on track with your New Year’s resolution? Well, whether you are or not, it’s never too late to get back on board. Eating healthy can be challenging, especially if you’re one who always has a taste for something sweet. But you’re in luck! Here’s a list of healthy alternatives that you can trade for your favorite junk food and not feel bad eating it!

1. Frozen Yogurt for Ice Cream.

Ice cream tastes amazing, but having too much isn’t so good for your body. If you’re like me, it doesn’t matter what season it is as long as you have your ice cream. So instead, trade your ice cream for frozen yogurt. Frozen yogurt isn’t bad at all and there are so many different varieties!

2. Baked Fries or Sweet Potato Fries for Fries.

Salt? Ketchup? Yes, please. Fries are addicting! Once you eat one, you will want to keep going in for more. But you don’t have to give up fries completely, try baking your fries by adding a little olive oil on them and a pinch of seasoning and BOOM, you have healthier fries compared to your local restaurant! I also recommend sweet potato fries.

3. Fruit or Granola Bars for Candy Bars.

If you’re ever craving something sweet, grab some fruit. How many times have we heard this? Fruit is amazing but sometimes we still want that taste of a candy bar, so I recommend granola bars! Granola bars taste amazing and are way healthier.

4. Veggie Chips or Popcorn for Chips.

Flavorful? Crunchy? Now those are my kind of chips. Chips are always a go to for parties, movies, or just because. Unfortunately, as you may already know, they are not the healthiest. Instead, you can trade in veggie chips, popcorn, or if you just cannot get rid of chips try the 100-calorie packs.

5. Juices for Soda.

Water is the healthiest thing for you, but it’s hard transitioning from soda to water. Instead try drinking different juices (but watch out for sugar).
