Spring break is coming, which means you get to relax, have fun, and maybe even show off your spring body off. While you may be tempted to transform your body into what society thinks of as the perfect “spring break body”, being healthy is the best thing you can do for yourself. As the time counts down until the spring break plans you’ve been excited for begin, it’s important to remember how to prepare yourself the safe way.

First, you should make and understand a plan for yourself. It’s easy to say that you want to have a certain end goal, but it’s crucial to make a plan to help you achieve your goal. Make sure you make your plan reasonable and stick with it!

You don’t have to go on a crazy diet to get in shape, but you should be making good food choices. While your food choices are completely up to you, some healthy choices would be to limit sugars, choose carbs wisely, and add more protein and fiber to your meals. Also, it might be helpful to eat more meals while cutting down your portion size. An important thing to remember is that you shouldn’t be starving yourself because it’s not safe and will end up causing more health problems than benefits.

In regards to exercising, it’s obviously a great way to get in shape, but you should make sure you’re doing it a safe way. You can push yourself to your limits, but don’t overdo it and end up hurting yourself. It’s important to pace yourself. Give yourself some recovery days, because your body does need time to recover and come back stronger. You can hurt yourself and can actually make your work less effective, if you don’t give your body the time off that it needs.

Lastly, you should actually start your plan, instead of putting it off and trying to “binge” exercise later. Spring break is a time to do what makes you happy, and you don’t want to feel miserable while you’re supposed to be enjoying the time off!
