I Wrote A Book To Create The Guide I Always Needed But Could Never Find

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

It began with hundreds of drafts in the notes section of my iPhone. I wrote down every thought that would come to mind, as well as every potential solution. It came to a point when my phone was some sort of self-help journal that I was constantly referring back to, and I figured it was time to bring it to life so it could help more people than just me. This is how my book, Control Mindset was born.

Control Mindset is the guide I have always needed but could never find. High school and the first few months of college were miserable for me. I was constantly in my own head, constantly losing to fear, and constantly afraid to be myself. As a result, I read tons and tons of self help books. And yes, some were incredible reads and eye-opening, but that is all they were: informative. But then what? How was I going to make change? How was I going to become what I was reading about?

That is when it clicked: change is rooted in action. Nothing else. So I made sure that Control Mindset would expand past the simple “informative” aspect of self-help books and took on the challenge of interacting with readers, having them act on what I’m even talking about. Every exercise, every writing prompt and every question posed in Control Mindset is what got me out of the hole I was stuck in for so long. I have translated them into book form for anyone to read and use. These are the practices that I swear by that are now available for the masses. This book changed my life. Now I’m sharing it with the world.

The unique Control Mindset philosophy is as follows:

PART ONE: DISCOVER & DESIRE

  1. You must know yourself in order to know what you want. Get to know yourself.
  2. Next, define your limitations. Then, realize they’re all in your head. It’s time you get out of your own way.
  3. What do you want? You must instill a burning desire for that thing. Envision it. Then, bring your vision to life in Part Two.

PART TWO: MANIFEST & UNLEASH

  1. It’s time to unlock the power of your mind in order to bring your vision to life. Take control of your mind through your mental habits and where your energy and attention flow. This is all in your control.
  2. Don’t forget what you can physically take control of: your environment, your devices, your boundaries.
  3. Combine everything into your superhero: become the person you deserve to be: a person who has finally taken control.

PART THREE: OPTIMIZE & FLOW

  1. How can you ensure that you will get to where you need to be? That you will experience full control, peace, and joy? You must optimize what’s already in front of you by getting rid of the excess.
  2. Learn how to remove chaos and distractions from your life in order to finally reach your flow state.
  3. You are not perfect, and you never will be. Learn the value of moving backwards in order to get to the finish line.

She is the author of her first published book, Control Mindset, a nonfiction guide to taking control of your mind & reality. Her aspirations are in the field of medicine, but she enjoys connecting the art of writing and creation with the sciences. She thinks writing biographies is very hard so she is butchering this as she types. She thanks you for reading her article and hopes you learned something new. She also loves coffee and needs some right now. She argues dark roast is the best roast. She's also probably hungry right now. Nom nom.
