It’s finally that time of the year again! Galentine’s is coming at a tough time this year, right smack-dab in the middle of midterms. Naturally, we may not all have the time to plan an extravagant outing or there simply is just not a moment when everyone is free to meet up. Understandably, this puts a total damper on the day because let’s be honest, who wants to miss out on a day with their favorite gals? But even amid the worst of circumstances, I think the big day calls for a little celebration. So, to make your time a little better and get into the Galentine’s celebrations, here are a few ways to celebrate on your own:
- Have a Self-Care Day
-
If you are a college student just wrapping up midterms, you doubly deserve this. We all need a day to reset and Galentine’s provides the perfect opportunity. Sit back with a face mask and watch your favorite cheesy rom-com, or hop into the bath and blast your favorite Taylor Swift songs. Self-care means something different for everyone so if neither of these feels fitting, do whatever it is that makes your soul happy and brings your mind at ease. And if you really want to bring home the Galentine’s theme, throw some hearts into your routine. This can be anything from baking heart-shaped cookies to simply wearing a Galentine’s-themed outfit.
- Treat Yourself to a Brunch
-
Now this one may seem odd because it’s a little frightening to eat in public alone, but trust me it is so much fun! Take yourself to your favorite brunch spot and get whatever it is you love. It is honestly so therapeutic to spend some time with yourself. And if you aren’t a brunch girlie, go to your favorite coffee shop. If the weather calls for it, take your favorite book and spend some time relaxing with a delicious meal and an amazing read outdoors. If you really need it, tap into your inner iPad kid and pop on your current watch while you eat. You’ll be able to have a mini celebration and do what you enjoy, whether it be a meal or coffee.
- Go out for a Mani-Pedi Day
-
I don’t know about you, but I definitely feel like a new person after being pampered. And there’s no better day to do that than Galentine’s! Head to your local nail salon for a mani-pedi and some time to relax. If you want to stick to the theme, go for some red and pink colors or maybe even an extravagant full set with hearts and everything Galentine’s. If you don’t want to celebrate with holiday nails, then do something you always wanted to do. Whether it be a mixture of bizarre colors or maybe an over-the-top design, try it out for yourself on this special day. You’ll get to have a fun outing and support your local nail shop!
- Head to your favorite bookshop (and splurge!)
-
To all the book lovers, this one’s for you! You’re dying to do it and we all know it, so go ahead and visit your favorite bookshop. I can’t think of a better way to spend Galentine’s than in a tiny store that smells completely of new books. And while you’re there, splurge on the books you’ve always wanted but are waiting to buy — it’s the perfect chance! Solo book shopping is so much fun and you can even jazz it up by throwing on an outfit you’ve been waiting to wear. Pop in your headphones and walk around the shop for as long as you need to enjoy some alone time. There’s never a time that isn’t good for book shopping.
Galentine’s may be for your gal pals, but just because times are a little busy it doesn’t mean you should skip out on celebrating this year. It may not be the Galentine’s day you hoped for, surrounded by people you love, but it will be much better than not getting to do anything. There are so many ways to commemorate the day on your own, and who knows? Maybe it’ll become something you enjoy doing. Whatever you choose to do, just remember Galentine’s is about spreading love and you are the most important person to be loving.
