5 Easy Fundraising Ideas For Your UCLA Club

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

Do you need to fundraise for an upcoming club retreat? Or is your club budget running low in general? Either way, here are five fundraising ideas to support your club:

Sell non-perishable items on bruinwalk

Yes, you will be one of those mildly annoying clubs selling things on Bruinwalk. But, after all, Bruinwalk is the best location to lure hungry students into buying your donuts. One thing to note is that you can only sell dry, non-perishable items on Bruinwalk according to UCLA guidelines. Examples include Costco churros, pan dulces, coffee and stickers. Perishable items like boba, cream cheese bagels or pizza are not allowed, so keep that in mind!

sponge throw on bruinwalk

If there are any brave souls in your club that don’t mind getting sponges thrown at their faces, a sponge throw is one of the cheapest fundraisers you can do on Bruinwalk. The only ingredients you need are a sponge and a raincoat. It’s less awkward if you get friends to throw sponges at your friends, so make sure you advertise the event to them well beforehand. You can even post a demo of one member getting sponged on your club’s Instagram story as part of the advertisement — just remember to make it funny so that people are tempted to come!

Themed days

Use holidays or special occasions to your advantage! One special day coming up is Valentine’s Day on February 14th. You can sell heart-shaped balloons on Bruinwalk or provide on-the-Hill flower delivery service. One thing I know about these special days are that people are willing to spend more than usual, so take advantage of that!

LOTTERY

Lotteries are a fun and flexible fundraising idea; you can organize it completely online or sell tickets in-person on Bruinwalk. Either way, advertising is really important for this one. The more people who participate, the cheaper you can sell the tickets for and the better the prize you can offer. So make sure a lot of people know and are buying tickets from the lottery!

FUNDRAGERS

Last but not least — the iconic “fundrager.” For those of you who don’t know, fundragers are college parties with entrance fees, which help contribute to the club’s budget. Since this is more discreet than other fundraising ideas, make sure you advertise well on social media so that enough people show up! Set a theme for your fundrager (e.g. Y2K, all-black, etc) to make it more exciting and get a higher turnout.

NETFLIX

These are some of the best fundraising ideas for your club at UCLA. Make sure that everything you do aligns with UCLA guidelines (especially food sales)! Although it may seem difficult, fundraising can teach you important budgeting and marketing skills that help you in life beyond the club. Good luck!
