10 Enjoyable Things To Do At Home During Winter Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

After finally surviving fall quarter, everyone needs a break! That is why it is so important to have a relaxing yet fun time during winter break. Here are some things to do over winter break that you do not even need to leave your house to do:

Baking

The holidays are the perfect time to binge on cookies and chocolate. Baking is a fun activity you can do alone or with family. Your family may even have special desserts that they make around the holiday season! Although you may need to go out to purchase some ingredients to begin baking, it is still a very fun process, especially as a bonding experience for you and your family.

Go through your old clothes.

Instead of spring cleaning, try “winter” cleaning! With all the stress of being at school, sometimes it is hard to find time to go through your closet and get rid of some of the stuff that has been sitting in the bottom of your closet with a tag on it for 4 years (speaking from personal experience). Plus, it always feels good to start fresh and donate all your old belongings to charity.

Winter movies and PJs!

Sometimes all a person needs is a good day in watching winter movies and chilling on the couch with your dogs. These old winter classics will probably bring back nostalgia from your childhood and make you feel good. Plus, add in the hot chocolate with mini marshmallows and throw in a warm blanket to complete your perfect movie day!

Create your 2020 New Year’s Resolutions!

It is always good to set goals for the following year and celebrate all of your achievements from the past year. Coming up with a list of goals to help you start your new year off on the right note is important. It is a chance for a fresh, new start! Of course, do not get down on yourself if you do not meet one of the expectations; after all, nobody is perfect.

Look into summer internships.

I know it seems crazy to already be planning for summer considering it is still months away, but internship applications close early and it is important to plan ahead! Getting a good summer internship in college could be an important step in whatever career you choose.

Plan for a fun spring break trip.

Although spring break is still a while a way, planning a fun trip can keep you excited and busy. A lot of popular spring break destinations book up fast, so this is another reason to plan ahead!

Have a personal spa day.

Grab your best face mask, some calming music and some nice-smelling candles and make your own spa day! If you are lucky, you may even be able to get some help from a sibling or parent to paint your nails and give you a massage. This is a great healthy way to destress!

Read a new book.

Reading is such a good way to keep your brain active over the break. It is both fun and relaxing! Personally I really like young-adult fiction novels; they’re unpredictable and always a good read.

YouTube workouts

You do not have to leave your house to work out! There are so many exercise videos on YouTube that you can get for free and do in the comfort of your own home.

Online holiday shopping

The busiest time to shop at the mall is during Christmas/Hanukkah. Luckily, many stores have online websites with the same discounts so that you can purchase gifts online! It is a great way to save money without having to actually go anywhere.

Although there are many more fun activities you could do over winter break, these activities can get you started off to a restful winter break that you deserve.
