Throughout the past couple of years, I have been trying to find a way to make my life more positive for myself and for the people around me. There are a few things that I’ve learned that have helped me create a life full of love and positivity. However, positivity isn’t going to automatically manifest in your life. It’s also not going to be instantaneous. In order to bring more positivity into your life, you are going to have to work on it constantly. Here are a few things I do that help me create a positive and happy life.

1. Focus on the good parts of your day.

Every day is going to hold good things and bad things. Too many people focus on the bad things too often. If you choose to focus on the bad things, it will seem like a lot of bad things happened during your day. Luckily, this also works the other way around. If you choose to focus on the good things, it will seem like a lot of good things happened instead. “Good things” do not have to be big, spontaneous things. A good thing can simply be the fact that your coffee came out to be the perfect temperature this morning or that you didn’t run into any traffic before work. Taking the time to focus on and being thankful for these small victories will make your day seem a lot better. Additionally, I have found that when I do focus on good things, even more good things come!

2. Take time to give others a little bit of happiness.

Throughout my life, I’ve found that the times in which I felt the happiest were times when I made others happy. Complimenting someone on their outfit or their hair is an easy way to make someone’s day. Trust me, they will remember that compliment for the rest of their day. Also, compliments take a lot of people by surprise, so they will most likely smile and thank you, which will make you happy in return. Other simple things that make a person’s day include holding the door open for someone, saying “have a good morning (or evening),” and even stopping to have a quick conversation with them. When you realize that you have the power to make others happy, you can become a happier person yourself. Bringing happiness to others is a sure way to add more positivity into your day.

3. Allow yourself to do the things that you enjoy.

We often get tied into things that add stress and suck the life out of us. Work, class, and studying all the time can be extremely taxing on our bodies and minds and will make your day seem less exciting. Don’t waste your day by not allowing yourself to take a little bit of time to participate in activities that you actually enjoy doing. Even if you just take a half an hour or an hour every day to do something fun, you’ll feel happier and your day will feel improved!

4. Soak up your “me time.”

The best feeling in the world is getting home after a long day, taking a hot shower, and putting on your pajamas. You do not want to rush this part of your day. This time is the perfect opportunity for you to relax, listen to your favorite songs, and feel completely happy. So much positivity can come from ending your day on a great note. This can also help you start the next day with a more positive attitude!

Consciously bringing more positivity into your life will improve your overall health and well-being. Additionally, being a more positive person can give you more power to bring positivity to others. Focusing on positive aspects of your day, bringing a bit of joy to others, doing activities that you love, and allowing yourself to relax at the end of your day are all things you can make an effort to do in order to make your life happier and to create a more positive environment for yourself and those around you.
